About this listen

Miss Chloe Fong has plans for her life, lists for her days, and absolutely no time for nonsense. Three years ago, she told her childhood sweetheart that he could talk to her once he planned to be serious. He disappeared that very night.

Except now he’s back. Jeremy Wentworth, the Duke of Lansing, has returned to the tiny village he once visited with the hope of wooing Chloe. In his defense, it took him years of attempting to be serious to realize that the endeavor was incompatible with his personality.

All he has to do is convince Chloe to make room for a mischievous trickster in her life, then disclose that in all the years they’ve known each other, he’s failed to mention his real name, his title…and the minor fact that he owns her entire village.

Only one thing can go wrong: everything.

Ack! I’m almost 3 hours in and have no idea what’s going on. Maybe if I paid better attention when listening, but I suppose that’s the point? The banter/dialogue between all characters should have been engaging and interesting but instead I found myself forgetting I was even listening until I’d realize I missed several minutes entirely.

Narrator was wonderful, would have loved for the story and narration to just whisk me away, but alas, it did not. 😢

I came across this book by an Audible recommendation. After reading the synopsis, and hearing the sample, I thought "why not"? I'm so glad I listened to it. This book was totally entertaining from beginning to end, with a reader who did such a wonderful job you couldn't help but to be pulled in. Jeremy and Chloe were so adorable and funny, and so was her dad. I found myself slowing it down to make the story last longer. Do yourself a favor, kick back, relax and let this story take you on a journey that you won't regret.

An absolute pleasure to listen to!

This one took a bit for me to get into— I spent the beginning of it so distracted and hungry every time I tried to read it. Finally I bought the audio, and it was 1000% worth it, for the story and for Mary Jane Wells’ amazing narration. Her Jeremy and his asides and comments are beyond perfect. I was laughing out loud for most of this book.

Stunning audio

This book odd utterly delightful. The dialog is witty. The characters are fundamentally good people who still need to do work to get out of their own way. The story is touching while also being relatively low angst. I recommend this book to everyone. It is one of my favorite books of the year so far.

Delightful!

Loved the story! Felt that the fathers confession was a filler but overall I’m glad I spent the credit! You won’t be disappointed

I’ll listen to anything Mary Jane Wells Narrates!
