Thoroughly enjoyable story

I really enjoyed listening to this story, it has plenty of romance and passion and lessons learnt. The narrator is excellent especially with the Scottish accents. I highly recommend

Like always, Cathy Maxwell knows how to deliver a wonderful, funny, and heartwarming story. The epilogue is one of the best ever; but is actually a teaser for the next book!

Confusing

There were too many characters...not the characters themselves...but from all of their perspectives...inside voices. It got confusing at times...quite a bit of rewinding. I'm not sure how this wasn't about Tara. It was pretty much about her. Aileen's past with her husband and that other guy was vague. It was odd since it was the basis of why she lives there, and why she is the way she is. She and Blake were flat characters.
It was pretty boring. Mary Jane Wells, whose narration I love, couldn't really save it. I hope you're not looking for hot and steamy. There was one kind of scene. It was about five seconds, maybe. It was also just weird. They still have their clothes on too. Pointless, imo.
Sorry, but I fell asleep twice while listening to the book. Much better than melatonin. I'm afraid to try the second book even though it sounds like it might be more interesting.

Too Much of the Redicilous

You can call the book cute, a light-hearted tome, but most of the plot is completely improbable in regency England; not to mention the sometimes ridiculous conversations between the characters, and exchanges that you wonder how the author could not see a contradictions.

I bought the series on sale, so I’m going to listen to the second book in hopes that it’s not as ridiculous as the first.

Too many stories for one novel

Setting: Scotland, 1807 + 1816
Genre: Romance
Narration: Mary Jane Wells does very well with this story. She doesn't have a very wide range, but since there's more telling than showing in this book, that doesn't matter much. It's hard to explain, but I will look for other books she has narrated.
The problem with this book is that the plot is muddied by the fact that it involves 5 people, and the novel involves points of view from 4 (and sometimes 5) of them. Though not quite omniscient in point of view, it is still distracting. Because of this, it is difficult to know the characters beyond the situation. Perhaps if it was longer, it would have been better. But it was interesting enough that I didn't give it back.
So... Lady Tara runs back to Scotland, jilting Blake Stephens. He follows and her father decides that banns will be called in the local kirk. Tara has come back because she is in love with her childhood sweetheart. Rory, however, is engaged to Jane. Tara decides to pursue him anyway. Meanwhile, Blake meets her sister, Aileen, and finds himself fascinated. What we do learn is how the characters, Tara, Blake, Aileen, Rory, and Jane, deal with the situation.
I suppose, if you can get beyond the slight confusion of 4 points of view, this is worth the time, and credit.

More than lively story with many interesting and we'll drawn characters. Can't wait to start the next in the series! Also Mary Jane Wells is a great, fun narrator.

Not great

All over the place. To many stories. No substance. Not worth the coin, unfortunately not worth the listen.

Heavy going...not worth a credit

Not even Mary Jane Wells' excellent narration abilities could save this book for me. ALL....and I do mean ALL the characters are shallow and annoying. The story is just as shallow.

unfortunate

I have listened to a few others of Cathy Maxwell's books and even though she isn't a favorite I have found them more entertaining then this book. I purchase the book while on sale so I don't feel like I have wasted money but I will be hesitant to use credits to purchase future books.
