About this listen

Isabel Griffin has done her best to move on since her boyfriend, Max Adair, vanished without a trace eight years ago, leaving her heartbroken - and pregnant. Eerily enough, this isn't the first time someone Isabel loves has gone missing. When she was 16, her mother disappeared, and her father became obsessed with finding his long-lost wife - at the expense of parenting Isabel.

Determined not to repeat her father's mistakes, Isabel works hard to become a respected archaeologist and a loving mother to her daughter, Finn, a little girl with very unusual abilities. But while Isabel is on a dig in Barbados, she receives a disturbing phone call. The hauntingly familiar voice on the other end speaks just four words - "Isabel. Keep her safe." - before they're disconnected.

Isabel tries to convince herself that the caller can't possibly be Max. But what if it is, and Finn is in danger? As one mysterious event after another occurs, she can't shake the feeling that, despite what everyone else believes, Finn's father is alive - and he's desperately trying to reach her.

I hate giving a bad review due to one character

I Hate this heroine. Another reviewer said the first part of the book was good but the last part was horrible and I wish I listened. Selfish, thoughtless, angsty... I hate this chick.

A very moving story.

I loved this audiobook. The voice actors were fantastic. I’m not sure if I would have enjoyed this as much if I’d read it with my eyes. The ending might not be what most readers expect or want but I thought it was perfect. I’d give this more than 5 stars if I could. This was my first book by this author but it won’t be my last.

Good story

I really enjoyed the story. It kept me interested and waiting to see how things turned out. Some of the voices were a little weird but not too bad. I don't care for detailed sex scenes, which there were several.

So Much to Unpack

I was drawn in from the beginning of the story where you feel the coming a mystery. I like how Finn is a part of the story. The drama of the past is so striking and dramatic. But my feelings were mixed at the ending of the story. There were questions that I felt went unresolved. I don’t want to same more because I don’t want to give spoilers but I wasn’t completely happy with the way things turned out. #CMCon25

Too slow for me

As much as I cared for the characters, it's too slow of a build for me. Also, I didn't care for the ending because it was such a long, wasteful journey to a disappointing ending, IMO.

Personal relationships unrealistic

The first part, when the time travelers were in Barbados was okay. When they returned I almost didn't finish the book because the romantic relationships were so unrealistic and strained.

Lack of chemistry (SPOILERS)

The overall story and plot was amazing but the author neglected to show the true relationship between the final couple. There were a few instances that the friends could’ve been more, but the entire story was about the FMC’s connection in relationship with her first love. The author told you how Ryan was involved in their life, but you never saw Ryan interacting with Finn. It was always him trying to get close with Isabel.

Isabel clearly struggles between her relationships however, the entire time she is with Ryan, she thinks about how Max is going to feel or his well-being over. It is very unclear why Isabel chose Ryan instead. Most of Isabel and Ryan’s interactions were them insulting each other or quickly being mad at other.

Although it was a great story, great themes throughout the story, realistic struggles, the second half of the book did not make sense. It seemed that halfway through the story, the author decided to change the main love interest. Throughout most of the book Isabel told Ryan no consistently about being a couple, following him to the city, she can’t love him because he isn’t Max but then all of a sudden Max returns and she wants Ryan? Though the writing style and premise were great it seems the author forgot what she initially wrote about towards the end.

Started good

Disliked the main female character immensely. She was wishy washy and stupid. Loved Max. Ryan seemed very toxic. Not happy with the ending
