Publisher's summary

Jonathan Barnes, a shining new talent in the UK, intrigues listeners with his "wonderfully original concoction[s] of grotesque humour and sparkling prose" ( Guardian) - providing a literary "cabinet stuffed with curiosities" ( Observer).

In The Domino Men, an ordinary office-working Brit discovers that he may be destined to wipe out the wicked House of Windsor.

A macabre decent story

This is the first book I have been exposed to from J.Barnes. So, I can't compare it to his other work. Evaluating The Domino Men on it's own I would have to say that it started off really strong. By the end of the first part I was really hooked, but the last few hours of the second part lost momentum and seemed to drag. The only other complaint that I have is that Barnes goes above and beyond to tie all loose plot strings by the end of the book, but never explains why the two characters are called the Domino Men. You are left only to assume. Morbid humor, characters with blunt human flaws, a conspiricy thriller worth a listen.

excellent creepy modern fantasy.

What did you love best about The Domino Men?

it's the sequel to the somnambulist but you don't need to have read the somnambulist to enjoy and understand this one. it's dark, funny, creepy, fantastical, cool.

What other book might you compare The Domino Men to and why?

the somnambulist. same series and author.

What does Gerard Doyle bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

he's so damned posh.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

yup.

Any additional comments?

buy it.

How did this even get published?

I love urban fantasy, but this was bad. Why did the wonderful narrator Gerard Doyle (the only reason I started it) agree to perform this awful example of literature? It was so bad that I listened to the end out of curiosity to see just how bad it could get and to see if there was ever going to be any explanation of why, who, how or what for of any character or plot line--nope, nada. And if complete randomness isn't off-putting enough, add to it a protagonist who is the dimmest, most insipid, most useless and puking-est (there's a lot of puking in this mess) character to ever wander through a junk shop exclaiming, "whaaat?" "why?" "but what do you meeean?" "but I caaaaan't!" "Me??", ad infinitum. I started mentally writing my first-ever negative review while there were still two hours left of the thing. Please, Jonathan Barnes, just stop with this one.
