About this listen

A financial thriller that will keep listeners on the edges of their seats.

Esther Harding, a leading risk analyst at one of the country's largest banking institutions, is becoming more and more convinced that she has uncovered a ticking bomb with the potential to overshadow 2008's market crash. And as her own employer pursues "investment" strategies with ever-increasing levels of risk, she becomes convinced she must do something. Yet what can one person really do?

The markets are edging closer to a tipping point - like the teetering first domino in a standing row that circles the globe. And when Esther does sound the alarm, she wonders if anyone will take her seriously. But as public support grows for her ideas, so does the desperation of those whose conspiracy of greed she seeks to expose. With global markets on the brink and her own life in danger, Esther is locked in a race with the clock to avert a worldwide financial meltdown.

This fast-paced suspense novel will make you wonder where the fiction ends and reality begins.

Loved it!

The book starts off slow, but picks up towards the end. It's worth it! Also, you don't need to be versed in the world of finance to understand the plot. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

Grabbed me from the start!!

Excellent compelling story performed brilliantly in this recording. I am certainly no geek and thought I would get lost in the technical parts of the story. Not the case here. It was explained and combined with amazing personal insights that drew me further into the drama. Great character development and excellent plot!

Right off the front page headlines.

This story hits a little too close to reality for comfort. Holds you right to the end.

Good story - poor direction

I enjoy Davis Bunn's writing, and his research on the topic and writing about it was excellent. His character relations moved a bit quickly, and there were a couple of very handy characters that conveniently moved the plot along - compared to his other books it wasn't quite as excellent - but it was a good read.

The bad? The direction of this narrator! It's seems the woman had vocal talent because she used it for every character OTHER than the protagonist. Unfortunately, Esther was flat and toneless for the entire book, turning what could have really been a fun page turner into text read by Siri. I don't know why the director chose to have her go in that voice all the way through the book - the start? Possibly for a bit, but not the rest. As I told my wife - it upset me because the book really had potential.

Having said that - I still enjoyed it.

Bunn can do better.

Timely subject, but Bunn can write better suspense & deeper emotions than Domino portrays. Vocal reader average w some inconsistencies.
