Still spinning from the hustle and bustle of city life, Jodie ‘Nosey’ Parker is glad to be back in the Cornish village she calls home. Having quit the Met Police in search of something less dangerous, the change of pace means she can finally start her dream catering company and raise her daughter, Daisy, somewhere safer. Fiona, Sue, and Daisy, three retired ladies who volunteer at the local charity shop, Dogs Need Nice Homes, can’t believe their favorite customer is dead. Eighty-six-year-old Sarah Brown was found murdered in her hallway by her delivery man, a domino clutched in her hand—with a name scratched on it. When another person is found dead with a domino in their hand, and with the police making no progress, the ladies will need to help unmask a serial killer. For Sam Lovell, organising the summer festival in her hometown is one of the highlights of her year. It’s not always smooth sailing, but she loves to see Porthmellow’s harbour packed with happy visitors and being on the committee has provided a much-needed distraction from the drama in her family life (and the distinct lack of it in her love life). When their star guest pulls out with only a few weeks to go, everyone’s delighted when a London chef who grew up locally steps in at the last minute.

Performance is perfect
Plot was a degree less. I love Jodi, her mom, daughter and Nathan and Tony - Duncan, the “other” man felt straight out of central casting. I can’t believe someone as smart as Jodi would ever have been more than passingly interested in him.
Still, happy with the ending. Reasonably happy with the mystery. Worth the time but not the author’s most compelling.

Where has this Writer Been?!
Incredibly impressed with my introduction to this author… apparently she’s written a TON more books (including even more in this series) but not on Audible? Harper Collins and One more Chapter need to get on this ASAP! Also GREAT choice w/ Zara Ramm as the narrator … one of the BEST for this type of character (strong, witty and relatable female lead)

Witty, modern but still quaint
Slight spoiler alert - there is an extra marital relationship that takes place with a couple characters. This is the only part that isn’t my style. And all of her “romance” parts are well done as to appreciate what a woman of age feels and experiences within the early budding of a romance. It never crosses the physical lines of passionate kissing and embraces.
Beyond the extramarital stuff (which was necessary to the story line…hmmm, does it sound like I’m justifying why I continued to listen….
I did enjoy the first book in the series so much that I went for the second. AND I’m getting ready to download the third (hoping there won’t be any extramarital stuff but will deal with it if there should be).
I like the wittiness of these this author’s writing style and the plots are intriguing.
So both first and second books have had a nice combination of mystery, wit and a nice spice of romance.
Oh, I will add one other minor issue. In the second audio, I felt like the narrator lost some distinction in the voices between a few characters. It didn’t happen all the time, just on occasion but enough for me to rewind to make sure I understood who was talking. The narrator probably just needed a break either way a nice cup of tea and some sassafras (sp) biscuits.
I’m off to download the third in this series.
