About this listen

The Communist Manifesto summarizes Marx and Engels' theories concerning the nature of society and politics. They believe, "The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles."

It also briefly features their ideas for how the capitalist society of the time would eventually be replaced by socialism. Near the end of the manifesto, the authors call for "forcible overthrow of all existing social conditions," which served as the justification for all communist revolutions around the world.

A well narrated classic

Love it or hate it, but the Communist Manifesto is an influential work that continues to resonate in the modern world and should be read if for know other reason than to better understand the ideas and motives behind a socio-political movement that has played a huge role in shaping the 20th century. This edition is well produced, and Jakob Stone does a fine job narrating. He speaks clearly and pleasantly at an easy to follow pace. Audiobooks like this make college reading so much easier.

A Nice Overview of the History of Power Struggles

Overall, this manual that lays bare the foundations of communism is one of the most important texts for anyone to read. Of course there’ll be the dated terminology that comes as a result of this being written in the dying embers of feudalism, but the message has remained the same since Marx & Engels first conceived of communism.

The world, since the agrarian revolution and dawn of civilization has been governed by a series of power struggles. The levers of control change consistently, but it’s clear that capitalism was a natural evolution of feudalism, and that political democracy did not carry over into the economic and material realm. Race, nationality, religion, are all things used to artificially separate ourselves from each other, and the book makes important distinctions about the fact that any socialist reform is important to pursue, as long as it’s done with the right end goal in mind.

The narration is a little quick and slightly dry, but can be slowed down, and is a good manual to get ingratiated with communism to. It’s also helpful on getting a brief understanding of the material conditions of Europe since the Middle Ages.

The Communist Manifesto

Back in my school days, we heard about The Communist Manifesto by Marx and Engles. It was mentioned as an important piece of literature, but I remembered nothing more. Now I can say that I’ve actually listened to it.

The narration was quite well done. Clean and clear with great inflection.

Good narrator for this classic work

The narrator did a really nice job with Marx's classic Manifesto. He spoke in a clear tone, was (appropriately) quick in his pace, and used a very serious voice that matched the content of the book well. While listening to this audio book I felt as if I could have been sitting at a Daily Worker's meeting listening to it's members discuss serious business....with this narrator as the group leader. This would be a nice version of Communist Manifesto for a student preparing for an upcoming exam on the work...would move a lot more quickly than the traditional paper/bound version and would probably be more interesting. Excellent reading of a classic

Whether one agrees with Marx or not, his manifesto has been one of the most important documents in modern history. To understand the ideology that has captivated so many, I think it's critical to read the foundational text.

This audiobook is a fantastic reading of Marx. The dense language flows better through audio, and the narrator did an excellent job presenting the material.

Worth reading even if you disagree

At a little over an hour in length 'The Communist Manifesto' is a very quick read, and is easily worth the investment of time.

While short the book is dense with ideas. It may require more than one read to get all that is in there. It moves quickly between ideas, explaining the problem, causes and reasons of the Marx/Engel position before moving onto the next idea. These all stack up together to make a dense book about the problems of capitalism and the explanation of why the authors believe Communism is the solution. While history does show us that there are issues with communism in practice, separate from the theory, this doesn't automatically diminish some of the problems presented here of a growing separation of the bourgeoisie and the proletariat - the rich getting richer and the poor getting exploited.

I would recommend even the staunchest capitalist to read this and to actually understand what Marx was presenting. Often 'communist' is bandied about without understanding it, or it is mixed with socialist (section three is about separating it out from others)

Not all of the idea hold true (especially those in which a near doom was predicted 150 years ago and it still hasn't come), and I don't agree with some of the conclusions, but it is an interesting insight into the beliefs.

While there is only one narrator (Jakob Stone) listed for this book, I would swear there is a second narrator reading the short forward/introduction to the book. it is a different voice, accent and sound quality.

Jakob Stone does good with the narration. You can almost here the venom in his voice when he says bourgeois, just as Marx would want it. Overall he is clear and well paced.

Pure evil codified for you so you can recognize it!

Every time I listen to this book, I am shocked that anyone ever said that communism is a good idea in theory. They simply cannot have read this in its entirety. You could probably read this as a commentary on the Green New Deal being peddled by the leftists today.

This work is too important to ignore and too evil to let it derail the Great American Experiment so many years after this was penned. Read a history book, you don’t want to die in another Communist “Utopia”, you don’t even want to live in one. Just say no.
