About this listen

The newly discovered novel from multi-million-selling author Joy Ellis. Never-before published!

THREE NICE PEOPLE. THREE TERRIBLE CRIMES. WHAT MADE THEM DO THESE AWFUL THINGS?

It’s the night shift worker who finds them. Huddled in a hospital store cupboard is elderly Edith Higgins. Knifed to death. Sitting behind her is Staff Nurse Lily Frampton, a scalpel clasped in her blood-soaked hand.

No one can understand why this kind-hearted, dedicated nurse would brutally murder a frail patient she’s spent months caring for.

That same day, mild-mannered schoolteacher Rod Black is found surrounded by the battered bodies of his pupils. Why would a well-respected teacher beat five schoolboys to death?

Then a third shocking — and equally inexplicable — incident takes place in a London homeless shelter.

Entertaining and interesting

Joy Ellis is a great story teller. She describes this novel and its precedent novel are her “novice entry” as a writer. Novice or not, both books were quite interesting and enjoyable. I’m not a literary critic, I just enjoy a good story.

Almost there...

This book is detail-heavy and got weighed down alot. Having said that, I still loved the premise and look forward to the next installment. The narration is terrific.

Refreshingly unique twist on the murder mystery!

I love the unique gifts of the central characters and how Ellis is able to create a her heroes and villains with grounded vulnerability. The story is well structured and mystical with a lovely balance of realism. I wish she would continue this series with more Ellie and Michael!! Love, love, love it!! Congrats Ms Ellis, your first two novels hidden away in the attic are wonderful!

This one surprised me

I typically don't go for the hocus pocus type of novel, but I've like most of Joy Ellis's novels in the past, so I thought Id give this one a try. Especially after I heard that this series was her very 1st set of books that she ever wrote and just recently have been recovered from her archives (attic). There were lots of twists and turns that kept me guessing the whole way through.

Great characters, original plot

Exciting storyline but with lots of time for character building. I enjoyed this book. Slight criticism: there are too many characters and it’s tough to keep track of everyone. But it doesn’t get in the way of understanding the main plot line. Love the originality

Very interesting story!

So glad the authors first two books were finally published. Well worth the wait. I’m so thankful Ms Ellis had them squirreled away and we have them as a special gift from her!
