About this listen

Girls are a risk college freshman Ainsley Carmichael can't take. Her powerful political family sees her as the Chosen One who will someday be president. Upholding a carefully crafted veneer is second nature until the first day of class when Maya's mysterious gray eyes hold her in thrall.

Ainsley may be out publically regarding her sexual orientation, but she lives under the shadow of the Carmichael's ancient but shrewd matriarch in this contemporary lesbian romance. The girls pair up for a history project, and it soon becomes clear Maya is hiding something when she cuts their first kiss short by pointing out they come from different worlds.

The privileged world of the Carmichael clan stands in stark contrast to Maya's limited means. Ainsley's sexually fluid, quirky, and carefree cousin helps her investigate, only to discover details of Maya's past are sketchy at best as the suspense builds in this work of LGBT fiction.

Will Ainsley's love for the enigmatic girl enable her to break her Carmichael shackles?

Loved it!

I loved reading this novel and was happy to see it offered as an audio book. I can always count on T.B. Markinson to write an entertaining story. Narrator, Lori Prince, brings the characters alive with her stellar performance, beautifully complementing the written work. Highly recommended!

T.B. Markinson Never fails to deliver!

It’s a great Audio book, I listened to each and every word of this book, even listening to some chapters twice. I was so hooked. I’m glad I took the time to listen. It was as well done as the book itself. “Bravo”

Very good book

This was a very sweet story about two young women in love. What could go wrong. Trouble was the Ainsley was from a politically connected family whose head of the family had decided she would POTUS when the time was right. Maya came into Ainsley’s life basically rocking the boat by both falling in love.
A scandal transpired as a result of the two young women being in love.

There’s humor, sadness, machinations galore.

Overall, a very good book!

Sweet story and Prince did not disappoint, as always!

Loved the setting, Boston and Cape Cod are two of my favorite cities. Both protagonists, Maya & Ainsley are lovable. The narrator, Lori Prince, did very well with the different voices. I wished the author, Markinson, could flesh out the Carmichael Matriarch’s character a bit more. Grandmother — she can be a good juxtaposition to young Ainsley, both represent female empowerment in different times. Looking forward to the sequel!

Sweet story.

I'm a sucker for a cute ff especially with the opposites attract trope. This one was awesome.

Arc received by the narrator. Review was voluntary.

Absolutely Wonderful!

The Chosen One is absolutely fantastic! It is a wonderful story involving politics, mystery, intrigue and young love. Markinson’s main characters are wonderfully well developed and engaging. Ainsley is clumsy and quirky but ultimately likable. Maya is beautiful and mysterious. From the beginning the two are drawn together by an undeniable chemistry. Their love story is laced with humor, history and complication. The narrator’s voice helps bring this story to life and add a richness that you will appreciate as you listen along. You will find yourself laughing at times and guessing at others. However, as many of Markinson’s books often do, the ending will leave you wantIng more! Be prepared to enjoy this audiobook!

Wonderful

This audiobook was given to me for a honest unbiased review. This was Great. I LOVED this book. The political theme worried me in the beginning but, it was well done, it added depth, character, and intrigue to this book. I liked the mixed race element, gives a more real world vibe to the book. The family aspect was great, loved how the family interacted. This dealt with real problems in a real way. I highly recommend this book.

Enjoyable

Plot was good and the reader did well on many of the voices. The MC was just a little too "valley girl" for me, often came off as whiny and immature. That may have been the point, but it was a bit annoying at times. Otherwise, a well-written story.

A**hole

I liked the premise of the book and it started out really sweet. The chemistry between the two main characters is nice and makes me want to cheer for them. But (you knew there was going to be one) a subsidiary character - Fiona - is such a consummate, unremitting, intolerable asshole that I couldn’t listen to any sections she inhabited. Her aim seemed to be to embarrass, irritate and humiliate by turns her supposed friend - the protagonist - and I cannot imagine why the author felt the need to write her in in the first place. Aside from the emotions evoked above, there is nothing I can see that she adds to the narrative, except, sadly, to encourage me to stop listening.
