About this listen

Put the kettle on and discover an utterly charming new cozy murder mystery set in a sleepy English seaside town.

Fiona, Sue, and Daisy, three retired ladies who volunteer at the local charity shop, Dogs Need Nice Homes, can’t believe their favorite customer is dead.

Eighty-six-year-old Sarah Brown was found murdered in her hallway by her delivery man, a domino clutched in her hand—with a name scratched on it.

When another person is found dead with a domino in their hand, and with the police making no progress, the ladies will need to help unmask a serial killer. At least they have Fiona’s scruffy-haired terrier cross to assist them.

With plenty of tea and cake along the way, and despite squabbles with their rivals, the Cats Alliance across the street, the Charity Shop Detective Agency is born.

Fans of The Thursday Murder Club, Janice Hallett, Simon Brett, Ian Moore, and Sarah Yarwood-Lovett will adore this exciting new talent in cozy crime.

At least I hope it's going to be a series. Please write more books about the Charity Shop Detective Agency! Engaging characters, had me guessing right to the end. Also hoping Sophie gets some karmic justice in the future. Loved this book, great narrator.

It had me at partial Sue. Actually, I chose this book because I will listen to anything narrated by Zara Ramm. However, I loved this book beyond any expectations and I am very eager for the next. The correct mix of twists and turns combined with extremely well drawn characters. You’ll find yourself vividly picturing the comical but all-too-real rivalry between two charity shops (charity thrifts for Americans) - the most bizarrely excellent setting for amateur detectives. I am partial to a good cozy mystery.

Excellent entrant to the cozy mystery genre, excellent narration

This fish out of water story with three women living a simple life who suddenly become involved with a serial killer, is fun and allows the imagination to run wild.

If you’re a lover of The Marlow Murder club or a Thursday Murder Club fan you have to add this one to your list. It’s a must. Just like with the others you find yourself picking which character you most identify with and what you want them to do or expect them to say next. I’ve never craved so much tea and cake in my life. I’ve gained 10 pounds reading this one! Ha ha. I love the differences and strengths of each of these ladies and they are each funny, independent, real yet vulnerable and have their moments. It took me a few chapters to warm up but once I did I was in. It was witty and funny. The disclaimer in the beginning is hilarious! Wasn’t too difficult to figure out who did it but had a few interesting twists that had me guessing which was fun! Can’t wait for the next one! Great first hit right out of the gate!! Keep them coming. I want to see this charity shop turn detective agency get Simon LeBon out there undercover in their next big gig!

Just what I was hoping for
