Acerca de esta escucha

Enter Regency-era England—and a world in which magical mayhem and high society go hand in hand—with three novels featuring cousins Cecelia and Kate.

In Sorcery & Cecelia, the two cousins have been inseparable since girlhood. But in 1817, Kate goes to London to make her debut into English society, leaving Cecelia behind. While visiting the Royal College of Wizards, Kate stumbles on a plot to destroy a beloved sorcerer—and only Cecelia can help her save him.

In The Grand Tour, Cecelia and Kate are inaugurating married life with a trip to the Continent. When a mysterious woman in Calais gives Cecelia a package intended for Kate's mother-in-law, however, the two young wives realize they must spend their honeymoons preventing an emperor-in-exile named Napoleon from reclaiming the French crown.

In The Mislaid Magician, the steam engine is announcing its arrival and the shaking of the locomotives begins to disrupt England's ancient, underground magical ley lines. When the disappearance of a foreign diplomat threatens to become an international incident, Cecelia departs to fight for the future of magic-leaving Kate to care for a gaggle of disobedient, spell-casting tots.

The narration is pretty good, and the stories, as told through the characters’ correspondence, have a fair amount of lighthearted humor.

Fun series

I was so excited to find this series on Audible, as I never have time to sit and read anymore but I can listen while doing other things. Unfortunately, the narrator did not do any research regarding the correct pronunciation of common French words used in English. The constant mispronunciation of Marquis, Counte, valet, and the like made me cringe listening to it, and as excited as I was to share this with my kids, now I'm reluctant to have them listen and learn the wrong pronunciation.

Excellent books, poor pronunciation

Interesting style, excellent narrator, action and mystery with a little romance thrown in. All her books are good reads, but I like this series and the Mairelon the Magician series the best.

Good books

My favorite book was the first one, the other ones where good, don't get me wrong, but I do think that the reason the first one was better was because first: sequels are usually not as good. But also because the authors were just trying to have fun and not really trying to impress anyone but each other. Over all a good book and story!

The first book was the best

This starts as an epistolary novel, in the form of letters between cousins, and later adds other kinds of “documents.” I liked the characters, but the rules of the magic reality created by the authors were neither credible nor admirable. Even as an escape, this wasn’t worth it.

Cute structure, plot gets increasingly diffuse and silly
