Relationships have always been essential to human survival. Our bodies and brains are programmed to seek out connection, whether familial, romantic, or platonic. And yet, these vital bonds are often at the root of our deepest suffering. While our hearts are primed for compassionate connection, our nervous systems—which store all our past hurts and disappointments—are wired for threat and negativity.

Although pain is inevitable, suffering is optional. This book offers a completely new paradigm and understanding of where our human experience comes from, allowing us to end our own suffering and create how we want to feel at any moment. Don't Believe Everything You Think is not about rewiring your brain, rewriting your past, or positive thinking. We cannot solve our problems with the same level of consciousness that created them. Tactics are temporary. An expansion of consciousness is permanent.

I loved that chapter 7 reminded me of the proverb, “a soft answer turns away wrath but a harsh word stokes anger.” This was such a great reminder for me because once we start to develop more secure attachment in our relationships (by looking at ourselves first), we start to become softer in our interactions with others, which might sound like not a great trait to have (we seem to celebrate strength and assertiveness so much in our society), but it actually creates an almost stoic type of unshakability which empowers so many aspects of our lives.
In short, this title will help listeners in fulfilling needs, creating and respecting powerful boundaries, and basically just being more happy overall by cultivating a secure attachment style. You must do the work though, however, its easier than ever with CBT.

Robert J. Charles has created an incredibly insightful and practical resource for anyone struggling with anxious attachment. The CBT Workbook for Anxious Attachment goes beyond just explaining attachment theory—it provides real, actionable tools to help process childhood trauma, manage anxiety, and build healthier, more secure relationships.
One of the standout aspects of this book is its structured approach. The exercises are easy to follow yet deeply effective in helping you recognize and reframe negative thought patterns. I especially appreciated how it incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques to break cycles of overthinking and self-doubt.
Whether you’re navigating romantic relationships, friendships, or even improving your self-relationship, this book offers valuable insights and step-by-step strategies to develop emotional security. Highly recommended for anyone looking to heal from past wounds and create more fulfilling connections!
