About this listen

Osho, one of the best-known and most provocative spiritual teachers of our time, presents The Sutra of 42 Chapters—a scripture compiled in the first century C.E by a Chinese emperor. Two thousand five hundred years have passed since Buddha delivered the sutras on which this series is based.

Using modern idiom, Osho extracts the kernel of Buddha’s profound insight and understanding and presents his everlasting message to the contemporary listener in a manner that is lucid, straightforward, and humorous. Osho weaves his own unique insights into this profound ancient wisdom and expands its meaning for our time, discusses the need for doubt and argument in the spiritual search, the nature of desire, and the discipline of non-attachment.

As we travel with the Buddha on a path of radical wisdom, we’ll laugh or shake our heads at the folly, the ineptitude, or the goodness of the characters in the stories—and gain knowledge and understanding at the same time.

Osho engages us at every level to help us experience the Buddha’s teachings and take in their timeless truths. A powerful, inspirational gem of a series of talks recorded in an outdoor auditorium with several thousands of people in his audience.

This is an abridged edition of an original series of talks by Osho titled, ""The Discipline of Transcendence"".

So Glad I found Osho on Audible

If you somehow feel like nothing in this world makes sense no one and nothing in this world speaks to you, Osho will speak to you. I can’t think of how I would get along without these Osho audible books. And I’m so glad that he was so prolific. I have someone that can speak to me for a very long time. Thank goodness.

Masterful!

This is a powerful and amazing talk! So much wisdom to be gained in listening! The audio quality was bad in a few spots though out of 20 plus hours of audio that’s not a bad thing.

Daunting but thoroughly good

Anyone who downloads a 36-hour lecture series knows that they're getting into something hardcore. I guess there's no rule that you have to listen to the entirety of a "book" like this, but if you do listen to all of this, know that you're in for a marathon.

A good marathon, though! Osho is gifted, and he has a bent to his lectures that can really appeal to Westerners. He bags on Western religion quite a bit, basically calling lots of it farcical, but everything is thoroughly grounded in Buddhism and everything ultimately ends up with a positive Buddhist spin (and not just a negative Christian one... although I certainly liked the dissection of Christianity).

I've listened to hundreds of hours of Buddhist content and Osho without doubt delivers some of the very best lines and thoughts that I've ever heard. My one grievance is that there is not that much about meditation and the practice of meditation. Lots of great Buddhist stuff on Audible really dives deeeep into meditation, and Osho not so much, at least not here. But anyway, still a very good listen.

OSHO was the best

This is one of best speeches by OSHO. OSHO was way ahead of time and he still makes complete sense on western and eastern world, and the so called religious institutions. The institutions which is based on fear and greed.

The most beautiful explanation about all the Buddhas

This collection of teachings has brought me a deeper insight about life in several aspects. Before listening to this I’ve considered Osho as a great teacher; now I’m sure he is in fact a great Master.

The best Audiobook I have heard so far

I listened at 1.25 speed since Osho speaks so slowly. But 50 hrs went by smoothly. It was so insightful and cleared so many gaps in my understanding. In short, it's a masterpiece.

Everything OSHO

Is amazing! I really like the deep dive Osho does here on a list of Buddha sanscripts interpreted a la Osho. This is a good book for someone who already is accustomed to the Osho style narrations.

The eightfold path

This collection of talks about Buddhism are remarkable because they are not from the traditional Buddhist literature. In particular, one talk is outstanding because Osho provided a beautiful and original insight about the Eightfold Path.
