A Dream Come True

This is a story of a young boy who longs to play baseball in the local Little League. As dreams go for all youth, this is probably not that unrealistic. I did find this to be an enjoyable read even though much of it would not hold up to what goes on in the "real" world. As a read for pre-teen, this story should be premised with a caution that this is just a story. The narration was good and help keep the attention. I did receive this book free in exchange for a fair and honest review.

The Boy with the Golden Arm

The Boy with the Golden Arm is a cute feel good story. While I enjoyed the happily ever after aspect, I didn’t find it a very believable story. Coming from a family that has been involved with rec league sports for many years, I know how unrealistic this situation is. That being said, sometimes it’s nice to just listen to a story where all the stars align, and everything works out perfectly.

Baseball, Music or Both?

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This was a really sweet book about a small group of friends making a little league baseball team. I don't understand the rules of the little league very well, but it made sense in the novel and I thought it was really awesome how they included a girl in their little league team. I particularly liked Harry, the main character's father and the coach of the team, and his unorthodox methods for teaching baseball, based on music.

The narrator, David Kresser, was not as impressive. He didn't sound very good in the recording and I had to pause frequently when the narration started to really annoy me.

4/5 stars

4/5 The Boy With the Golden Arm by William Graham
Narrated by David Kressler
Run time: 2 hrs and 10 mins
Summary:
Kid’s father agrees to coach his little league team. The gang of misfits first time baseball players shoot to win the league championship.

Additional Comments:
- completely predictable yet enjoyable.
- a lot unrealistic yet enjoyable.
- classic underdog vs the town bullies story
- I remember Gina but can’t remember the MC’s name. The characters are charming yet forgettable. They become their stereotypes.
- the performance worked.
- The kids parents are picture perfect living and supportive and understanding and insanely talented.

Conclusion:
Clean. Appropriate for middle age boys and girls.
