About this listen

A Dan Shaw Thriller

In this enticing thriller, Dan Shaw risks the deep waters of wealth, deception, and murder off the Gold Coast to see justice done for a beautiful woman. Dan Shaw has been practicing law only four months and he’s already burned out. Add the fact that he’s just lost his longtime girlfriend and the cops are scouring his dubious past, and it’s no wonder that Shaw decides to set sail for the summer and get away from it all. But even alone in the middle of the sea, trouble finds him - in the enticing form of Katherine Adams. When Shaw hauls her out of the ocean, she’s naked, nearly drowned, and has little memory as to how she got that way. But the real story is even more twisted. Her husband, Cesar Cardinal, is a diplomat, a playboy, and a high-stakes gambler. He’s feigned his wife’s suicide at sea and taken their young son to a heavily armed compound in the Dominican Republic, where U.S. law can’t touch him. But that’s not going to stop Shaw, who can’t deny his feelings for Katherine. From Bell Harbor to Santo Domingo, he’s baiting a trap with his own life… and there’s no telling what he’ll catch.

Ron Faust is the author of 14 previous thrillers. He has been praised for his "rare and remarkable talent" (Los Angeles Times), and several of his books have been optioned for films. Before he began writing, he played professional baseball and worked at newspapers in Colorado Springs, San Diego, and Key West.

Mr. Shaw to the rescue again

The illegal legal eagle once again does good by doing bad. The reader has learned to pronounce “banal” but now abuses other words. C’mon! This is your job. Research it!

Third in the series and probably the best one

I like the protagonist, Dan Shaw, as well as all the other characters in this series. My biggest issue is that this guy was with the CID for 12 years, yet he is probably the worst investigator ever. He cant read people and he is suspicious when he shouldn't be and gullible and naive when he should be suspicious.

Well written and narrated.
Draws one in slowly and methodically.
I loved the characters and wanted the best for Kate & Daniel

Good story yet some how unsatisfying

Overall a good story line and narration. Yet I found the ending unsatisfying, like the author was experiencing a dark time in his life and expressing it in dismal ending.

After all that, it just ended.

After all the ordeals, build-up, and intrigue, the story just ended. There was no happily-ever-after; no revenge, retribution, nor conflict resolution. did he or didn't he?

Lumbers along

The background of the main character, his resume, his friends, his ex-fiance's resume and wedding... was all very thoroughly covered at the beginning. He's a veteran with a shady background who became a mediocre lawyer with friends in high places. After being dumped by his fiance for another man, he decides to start over by sailing away on the Atlantic. It took 6 chapters to set that stage.
I was listening on a road trip and didn't have another book downloaded, or may not have finished it because I like a faster pace. But once the story started it was interesting and character-driven, so some of the details aren't just "extra". The ending isn't wrapped up with a bow, but is somewhat satisfying.
