The story features only two characters: an unnamed boy and his mother. The mother has made a beautiful suit of clothes for the boy, who takes great delight in this possession. He longs to wear it everywhere, but the little man's mother insists that he may wear the suit only on rare and great occasions, and she covers up various parts to protect them. One night, he slips out of the house in his suit and is found dead the next day.
