About this listen

Welcome to Rabbit Creek.... City girl Elizabeth Reynolds hopes to find peace and contentment in the small Appalachian town of Rabbit Creek. Okay, so the bucolic cottage she's rented turns out to be a dilapidated cabin without phone service, but the people she meets are wonderful. Friendly and down to Earth, they welcome her with open arms. It's just like moving to Mayberry...if Andy and Aunt Bea were wolves. Only an outsider would call them werewolves. They're wolvers, a community of man/beasts that have lived in these hills since their ancestors emigrated from Scotland three hundred years ago. And that gorgeous Chief of Police, Marshall Goodman, the guy she met while covered in mud and wearing granny underpants? The one who sends her heart spinning? He's their Alpha and his pack is under attack from outside forces. Elizabeth, being a sane and reasonable woman, wants no part of any of this, but if she refuses to risk her life and her heart, the people she's grown to care about will lose everything and she'll lose the one man she was born to love.

Enjoyed the story

It was a well written story, but the narration was really bad. The pitch was so high it was hard to listen at times and the male voices had little distinction. The characters are compelling enough to keep me interested in the series. I especially appreciate the author's sense of humor

EXCRUCIATING NARRATION!!!!!!!

Any additional comments?

Wish I would have paid heed to the comments regarding this book's narrator. I have purchased/listened to many, many audio books and I have never had an issue with the narration of one until now. The narrator, Leah Frederick, has a high pitched voice and reads/narrates as though she's a newscaster. For those two reasons, I found her narration to be excruciating on the ears which made it very difficult to concentrate on the story being told. It was like trying to listen to a favorite song sung by an excruciatingly, horrible singer.

Enjoyed!

I enjoyed the storyline from the beginning, but felt the ending should have been a bit less abrupt.

I was Impressed that the characters were well developed, captured and held my interest throughout the story. The sex scenes included sparked just the right amount of heat, and added to the excitement of the storyline without being used as filler.

I enjoyed the voices of the narrator for the characters, and look forward to listening to her talent again. In addition, I look forward to more books written by the author, and recommend others do the same.

Perfect!

This is the first book in the Wolvers series. Author Jacqueline Rhoades absolutely surprised me with her creation of this story. I was blown away with Jacqueline's imagination. I've listened to many stories about shifters but wow this was a new take on shifters and it shows pure creativity. I laughed out loud so many times and I even caught myself crying some to. The author really has written a perfect story.
Narrator Lea Fedrick did really good with this story. However, she could use some improvement with distinguishing accents, but that's just my opinion. Unlike some of the reviewers, I didn't find myself cringing. I thought she kept the story flowing rather well. I definitely recommend this story and the other Wolvers to everyone, especially those who are tired of the same shifter type stories. This one will blow your mind, in a good way.

Narration was a personal problem for me...

What did you like best about The Alpha's Mate? What did you like least?

It was a story I could enjoy with characters and a premise I liked.
Least? Probably the narration and the lack of emotion I felt.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The people and premise...the least interesting was lack of dimension...

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Leah Frederick?

I have no idea - and I am not against listening to her voice - I would happily listen to her voice in a bio or anything appropriate of her tone. But I felt like she was a sarcastic newsreader of a comedy show that was taking a really long time to get to the punchline. She has the 'go-to' tone of Amy Poehler and Tina Fey when they're being sarcastic about what they're saying - and it completely distracted me from the story - I couldn't even tune out the tone and continue - it was always there.
If I heard her read the Tina Fey bio for example, she probably would have been super funny...but not this genre...sorry.

Did The Alpha's Mate inspire you to do anything?

Nope, sorry. I like him well enough though...but that was about it.

Any additional comments?

Hasn't turned me off the author or the narrator though.

Adult book written as if read by children

This is obviously an adult book but everything is over explained as if for a child. The story line was interesting and could have been a five star if it was rewritten and read by a different narrator, this narrator was wayyy tooo whinnyyyy.

NARRATION? YES. IT MATTERS!!

I love Jacqueline Rhoades. She's an outstanding author who gives such wonderfully full story lines. I would recommend any book she writes. I will NOT give Leah Frederick (Narrator) another listen!! Because narration in an audiobook is EVERYTHING!!
Her voice is high pitched and it just hurt me to listen. I tried. Honest.
So, listen to the full sample listen before deciding to buy or not.

The Wolvers is a Shifter story Not to miss

What made the experience of listening to The Alpha's Mate the most enjoyable?

When I read the summary I thought was, oh yeah just another wham bam shifter story, girl meets shifter falls madly in love jumps between the sheets kind a story.I was pleasantly surprised that it actually had a good plot and a real story to this one.BEST OF ALL a stronger lead female who wasn't just goanna run and cry for big bad shifter to save her but was happy to pick up a gun and stand her ground. Proving to everyone around her in the small town of rabbit Creak why she was perfect to be the Alphas mate.A great story, good plot, great description of the sort of scenery characters are set in, strong female lead and a good narrator.I recommend THE ALPHAS MATE to those looking for more than just sex, sex, sex in a shifter story.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Alpha's Mate?

One of the moments I liked the most was when reveals to Henry that he doesn't need to worry that she knows everything that is going on between him and Marshall Goodman and that there is nothing to be ashamed of about being Gay. The shock that follows was absolute hilarious when Henry informs her that if would be fine if they were gay but they aren't, next he questions her on how many people she told about him and Marshal Goodman. Its so funny I could not stop laughing.

Which scene was your favorite?

I think that would have to be one of most favourite scenes in the book,

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did want to listen to all in one sitting in fact I had to listen to it two more times I loved it that much.

Any additional comments?

If you are looking for a real good shifter story with plot, character , drama and comedy with that bit of passion happening then this is a must for you.

Good story, Bad performance

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Only about the first half hour was worth it because I could tell I would love the book in text. Past that not so much.

What did you like best about this story?

The world is well crafted and the people colorful.

Would you be willing to try another one of Leah Frederick’s performances?

NO! The word was "wolf" but can out "woof". In a book about "werewoofs" that got on my last nerve.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Maybe

Any additional comments?

I don't mind when a performer mispronounces words when using a cheater voice (someone with a french accent dose not pronounce something the same way an American from CA would). However, if it is the performer with bad diction it is just annoying and can almost ruin a book. This is one I will read because the performance sucked.
