About this listen

Philip K. Dick's classic paranoid story, "The Adjustment Team", which asks the question: Do we control our destiny, or do unseen forces manipulate us? Ed Fletcher is a real estate agent with a normal life, until one day he leaves the house for work a few minutes later than he should have. He arrives at a terrifying, grey, ash world. Ed rushes home and tells his wife, Ruth, who goes back to the office with him. When they return, everything is normal. But he soon realizes people and objects have subtly changed. Panic-stricken, he runs to a public phone to warn the police, only to have the phone booth ascend heavenward with Fletcher inside. The Adjustment Bureau, the 2011 Universal Pictures movie based on this classic Dick story, starred Matt Damon and Emily Blunt.

Great Things Come In Small Packages

The Adjustment Team was an uber cool short story about a man whose regular schedule was thrown off by a life insurance salesman. This causes him to leave for work later than usual. On his way in to the office he notices everything changing and wonders what is happening. He sees men with white cases and can't figure it out. He gets to work and everyone is odd looking and he begins to think he's just dead.

He finds his wife who assures him that things are fine and she walks with him back to work where he then finds everyone is younger looking and acting as if nothing has happened.
He then finds himself sitting in front of the powers that be and is told that an adjustment had been made and because he was running late, he'd missed it.

This is the story that the movie "The Adjustment Bureau" was adapted from. This little story is like number ten on the coolness chart. I really liked it.

Al Kessel delivers yet again in his wonderful narration. Great job with excellent character distinction. I look forward to more from Al and now I'm interested in looking into more of the late Philip K. Dick's work.

I received this audiobook foc in exchange for an unbiased review.

Unknown Gem of a Story

I can not choose they all had realistic depth.

What about Al Kessel’s performance did you like?

His voice is pleasant to listen to he has great pitch and depth to hos voice.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I got excited as the story begin to unravel it had my full attention

Any additional comments?

I really had never herd of this story until I was given the audio book in exchange for a honest review. I must say this short story was a pleasure. Well developed and plotted out. But for me the story was made by the narrator Al Kessel. His telling of the story was great I will be keeping this story to listen again. Hos voice was not monotone drumming along to get through it he really gave depth to the story.

I wasted my time.

Listen to the sample 1st because it's as pathetic from the start as is it is to the end.
