At Least There’s a Chapter Recipe List
I love cookbooks, but I’ve yet to be convinced that audiobooks are a decent format for them. I may be old school, but I think print cookbooks are best, followed by eBooks as a distant second. This cookbook did not change my mind. It doesn’t have much front matter beyond a brief listing of typical ingredients you need to cook Thai dishes at home. After that, it dives right into the recipes. Audiobook authors at Audible can provide a PDF to go along with their audiobook; I think all cookbook authors who make audiobooks of them should use this option. Ideally, the PDF should include the text of the recipes and any photos. Having to listen and re-listen to recipes to jot them down is annoying! At least this publisher has made each recipe a track/chapter in the audiobook. This way, you can scroll through the chapter list and go right to any recipe that interests you. Still, a PDF of recipes and photos would be helpful for the would-be cook. Audiobooks are a lot more expensive than eBooks, so the author should provide this. As to the recipes themselves, some sound authentic, but others do not … like a Thai hot dog! Others seem to be Thai fusion, like Bucatini with Thai Bolognese. The recipes don’t seem to be in any particular order, with a Mai Thai Cake that’s sandwiched between a curry soup and a prawn dish. Undoubtedly, there are better Thai cookbooks out there.
