About this listen

In James Patterson's white-hot Western thriller, a Texan Ranger fights for his life, his freedom, and the town he loves as he investigates his ex-wife's murder.

Across the ranchlands and cities of his home state, Rory Yates's discipline and law-enforcement skills have carried him far: from local highway patrolman to the honorable rank of Texas Ranger. He arrives in his hometown to find a horrifying crime scene and a scathing accusation: he is named a suspect in the murder of his ex-wife, Anne, a devoted teacher whose only controversial act was ending her marriage to a Ranger.

In search of the killer, Yates plunges into the inferno of the most twisted and violent minds he's ever encountered, vowing to never surrender. That code just might bring him out alive.

Perhaps it was the joy of hearing an entire book read in an authentic Texas accent, or maybe it was the amusement of numerous colloquialisms I have missed since leaving Texas. Whatever the reason, I enjoyed this book THREE TIMES! Dadgummit, I'm leaving California to return there!

The BEST!

Too wordy. seems like the main charactor keep repeating himself. No my cup of tea.

I liked that this kept me guessing until the end! I had who I thought was the villain until the very end, but I was WRONG! I love books that make me think and try to figure it out then price me wrong! Great book!

Great story line!

Simple story, a lot of macho guy, did not hold my attention as well as some others.

A little too predictable

I thought I had it figured out early on, but, was surprised at the outcome and enjoyed the suspense and surprises! I haven't read a James Patterson book for years and this was definitely worth the wait!

I have to say I haven’t liked aJames Patterson book since he quit writing them. This one is right up there. I listened to the whole book. It didn’t make any sense. I had hope toward the middle, but no . Where’s a butler when you need a good suspect ? Yuck.. waste of time.

Texas Ranger, not too bright

Liked the book and the narrator but I got tired of the constant "F" words and other curse words. Didn't seem to be necessary to the story.

Would Have Been Better Without Constant "F" Words

Not the worst, but definitely not stellar. Enjoyed the narrator. Story was weak. Not Patterson quality.

Meh.
