About this listen

Never shoot an ogre in the face...

That’s only one of the painful lessons I learned over the course of my career.

My name is Duke. Duke Grandfather. And for years, I was the best at what I did.

From the moment I first saw the barbarian and what he did to the goblin, my life was destined. Not that the goblin didn’t deserve it, mind you. Once I was established, life was grand. I loved my job and the freedom it gave me to sleep late and drink ale whenever I wanted. And then that dwarf changed everything.

Well, truth be known, it was overdue, really. And if anything, it led to me to the attention of Lilly. And she changed my life even more than the dwarf had.

Orcs in love, elder beings, and rogue witches’ brooms. I’ve seen it all.

I’ve even had to kill a friend.

Pull up a chair. Buy me an ale or three, and in return, I’ll tell you all about it.

Funny and fun.

I love it. It had a princess bride-esque story telling to it. it draws you in with it being funny but the story is also well, and the narrator did a good job of differentiate characters from one another. I got this book in exchange for an honest review from the author. it's entertaining enough I went ahead and got the second one.

Love Duke!

I listened to Lilly's stories first where Duke only pops in a few times and we don't really know much about him but I think starting with Lily's stories helped easy me into Duke's. I really am a cover whore and will always buy a book if the covers are great, which is why I got Lilly's books but looking at Duke's (let's just say the cover doesn't do the books any favors). Duke is actually a normal human and bot the monster on the cover. He has a magic gun and is kinda like a cop/bounty hunter in this realm of Paranormal. He meets a necromancer named Lily and the two fall in love but the story is tild in snippets and being retold to the two's grandson.
its a lovely story and spans many books in bite size stories. Great for commuting.

Fun and innovative!

I met the author at a festival earlier this year. Him and his wife were very lovely people and fun to talk to! I had to check out their books and glad that I did. This collection of stories is right up my alley of interests. Magic, fantasy races, and a hint of playful romance.
I rarely finish books, but this one had me hooked. I definitely recommend it for other enjoyers of fantasy and tabletop-like worlds!

Enjoyable Listen

This book is well written and I really enjoyed it. I also thought that T.L. Howell did a wonderful job narrating. It was just the perfect combo of good story writing, great characters, humor and talented narrating that makes this book great. I received this audiobook from the authors FB promotion and this is my voluntary review.
