Delightful and Spooky

I can say after listening to all four books (or both collections as they are paired on here) that this series is just the right amount of spooky and fun for readers 12 and under. But I enjoyed them immensely as well, and I am 23! The stories are par for the course of good children's horror, think Goosebumps or Are You Afraid of the Dark, with the added benefit of the wrap-around pieces taking place at the wonderful Haunted Mansion! Thus, there are plenty of allusions throughout to the much-loved ride and world therein. The narrator is wonderful, and he really does his best with the creepy voices and the audience winks, nods, and call-outs. It's honestly a lot of fun. And what makes it even better is the overall timing of the second set! Listening to the whole thing again in the Halloween season really got me into the spirit! Happy haunting (and reading/listening)!~

Fun Read and Definitely More Mature Than Expected

Fun read and great narration. I was worried that since it was a Disney novel it would be pretty childish, but that definitely wasn't the case. It's worth picking up for anyone interested in the lore of the haunted mansion or just like ghost stories.

Dying for more

This, like Volume 1 & 2 was so much fun. As soon as this pandemic is under control I need to return to the Mansion. These books are too much fun. Hopefully there will be more haunts to come.

For the child at hear who likes a mild scare

This book collection was a great read. The narrator was great. The range in voice helped with the levels of scariness. Great collection to own.

Welcome to the end.

Tales from the Haunted Mansion: Volumes III & IV
Turn back now.

This audio book starts out so well written I was extremely impressed.

It made me think, ultimately, this is a good book to be read to children at bed_time.
It’d be so wonderful! Oh, to be a child and have this book read to you… what a frightful delight!
Pleasant dreams, kiddies!
This ‘bachelor uncle’ is thinking of reading it to my own nephews and nieces.
…by force if need be! ( it’s that good. Or at least it starts that good.)

That being said, I was completely engrossed at 59 yers old, as I listened to the adept reader. I was surprised that I even enjoyed the darkly humorous ‘silly zinger lines’ that appear in the story occasionally as if the author is winking to the reader/listener and saying “I know this is Disney’s Haunted Mansion, so it’s not really all that serious.” Then, the story gets serious & creepy in spite of all that. It’s really very well done.

The only improvement I could imagine would be a live action version, with an actor the quality if Bill Nighy reading the story as it flows in and out of real-time & ghost-story time - (ala “The Princess Bride”.)

The only improvement I could imagine would be if it were a live action movie, with an actor the quality if Bill Nighy reading the story as it flows in and out of real time & haunted fairy tale time - ala “The Princess Bride”.

Yet, that's not really an improvement, that's just a different way to tell this excellent group of tales.

The Disney Haunted Mansion mythology in as perfect as it’ll ever get, in these tales at the start of the book.
Then, sadly, it all goes to HELL.

It seems they retire the old tale teller/librarian and after that the writing becomes the job of a washed up horror hack who pens at a ’D grade level in a high school creative writing class’.

We loose the brilliant “Amicus Arcane”, and are left with the really unlistenable “John Esposito”?

I could not finish the book.

But wait?! The librarian is moving on? Really? Is this the series end? …I hope not.
I hope it’s some GHASTLY JOKE and they are NOT really letting the NEW, horribly amateurish writer destroy this witty & entertaining series.

After she ( the washed up hack) took over… the story telling’s all cleaver reference to Disney’s Haunted Mansion, & Pop Horror Culture, became ham-handed brain-numbing and painful to listen to.
ARGH!!

Perhaps we can get a new great reader / story teller like… the famous actor Mister Bill Nighy.
Of course, we’d have to wait ’til after Bill Nighy’s …ah …”passed away”.
Everyone’s finger’s crossed?
Good!

(evil snicker)
