Worth listening too

I enjoyed this book, it had an enemies to lovers, brothers best friend, and Cinderella feel to it. With a side of mystery added in. Loved the banter in this book.
Holly did a good job reading this book, once in a while it sounded stiff but overall good job.
I was given a free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Cute and quirky

I liked this well enough. I feel like it’s a bit of a shame that maybe a beta read wasn’t done to unclunk some of the storyline maybe? I feel like there was a few repeats and stilted sentences.

Narration wise this was ok. I wasn’t the biggest fan of some of the adapted male voices but that’s just my personal opinion.

Fmc obviously has severe body issues because of past/current bullying which is awful. I am very glad as she grew up she managed to find a best friend who has her back and a twin who is fiercely loyal.

This is a I’ve loved you since we were kids troupe, it’s quite a clean romance, I wouldn’t say there’s smut. Sex scenes are not overly detailed.

This is my first time reading this author. I was gifted this audio and I’m providing my honest review.

Zeke is just about perfect

Zeke is Talia's twin brothers best friend and they grew up together when circumstances force them together. Zeke lets his feeling for Talia come out and sparks begin. Loved this story about this couple look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

Romantic & funny

This was my first book by Jackie Paxson and I enjoyed it. An interesting mix of several tropes: frenemies-to-lovers, celebrity, and best friend’s sister told entirely from Talia’s POV. The was some sex, but this was heavy on the actual relationship. Excellent world building and we got to know many secondary characters I hope we’ll see in future books.

Honestly, what probably held this back from being 5 stars was the need for a beta reader or editor. There were several times where things were clunky or awkwardly phrased, the same adjectives were used multiple times in a row for various objects, or a sentence was repeated but rephrased.

It was still an enjoyable story though.

Holly Holt has a pleasant voice and I enjoy her narrations. I did feel like some of the male voices were a bit stilted but it won’t keep me from seeking out her work in the future.

Hilarious, Poignant, and More

I had previously read this book but the audio made me enjoy it even more. It's funny as all getup, poignant, bittersweet, loving, and so much more. The narrator was good, too.

Loved it!

Great story. Very entertaining. It was easy to feel the characters emotions through the telling of the tale.

I'm really looking forward to digging through more dirty laundry!

Funny, sweet story!

This was a funny, sweet, a bit emotional entertaining story. Talia works for a tabloid paper and being at the right place at the right time she gets the scoop on a story on A list actor Zeke who happens to be her twin brother's best friend and her enemy. When caught in a compromised position Talia is now in a fake relationship with the one man she can't stand. While together feelings get blurred and truths are revealed will these two be able to overcome it to be together. I enjoyed listening to this story and look forward to more.

It was going all so well until one line made me DNF

Honestly, I was enjoying the story with Talia and Zeke, until one particular line in the story made me angry.

Both were at a party at Talias childhood home and her grandpa ( who had a weird tendency to go naked almost all the time he was mentioned in the story) had been naked with a lady friend, and then he had gone outside to the porch with his friend, and there was an argument with Talias parents, resulting in too much information from both parties, and which resulted in the line Where was an indigenous person with a blow dart when you needed one?

That made me go what the everliving heck was that mentioned for? There was no reason for the line, made me not want to continue on with the story. I’m so angry about it, it felt out of place, and offensive to indigenous people.

Before that point, I thought the storyline was going okay. Talia did seem very self- conscious for my liking, and honestly, Zekes friends were all jerks in their own ways. Why continue to literally hang out with them. Honestly, I got tired of the southern small town with some awful, catty people in it, and some of them turning to try to ruin Talias reputation in the tabloids.

This was going well, until an unnecessary line about indigenous people and blow darts and too much angst within the small town. Not something I would recommend for anyone.
