About this listen

In New York Times best-selling author Lynsay Sands' captivating romance, a lass targeted by an unknown foe is saved - and seduced - by a bold Highlander

Edith Drummond owes her life to Niels Buchanan and his brothers. Waking after an illness to a castle overrun by rugged Highlanders is disconcerting, but so is learning that she's slowly being poisoned. Niels insists on staying by her side, and Edith soon discovers that even more dangerous is her wild attraction to the fierce warrior.

Niels has never met a more courageous - or enticing - woman than Lady Edith. The idea of such a bonny lass being forced to enter a nunnery is more than any red-blooded Scotsman could bear. He'll gladly marry her himself. But while sweeping her off her feet is easy, it'll take all his skill to defeat her family's relentless enemies and convince her to surrender to his sweet embrace....

Always a pleasure.

I thoroughly enjoy these characters and look forward to more tales of their loves and friendships. Also liked a male narrator for a change :)

Another fabulous book

This was exciting and the end was unexpected. Throughout the story I kept thinking I knew who did what but boom surprise after surprise.

I'm loving the series

I do like the whole series, but the stories are all a lot alike. There are an awful lot of "crooked smiles" and "grimaces" though. I find myself thinking up other ways the author could have described smiling, though.

awesome entertaining audio book, performed by professionals. Audible is unlike any other Audible service provider, in my humble opinion! #ThanksAudible

I love Lynsay Sands books, really liked this one. Kept me guessing till the end. Cannot wait for more of her historical romances.

Suspenseful

I am one of those people that can figure out a mystery in the beginning of every story. This was truly a good suspenseful story until the end. I highly recommend this book.

Good read and good narrator!

I liked the narrator, he did a perfectly fine job. I never had any issues understanding who was talking and I felt his tempo and accent to be pleasant to listen to. I loved the story, I love ‘he fell first’ stories and MMC obvious devotion for the FMC was endearing. I wish there were trigger warnings about the AMOUNT of death described in this story. The villian kills 14 people and the FMC’s entire family by the end of the book. At one point the villian throws someone alive off the top of the castle. And it’s made clear that the FMC beloved older brothers are killed in a horribly painful way on purpose out of cruelty and spite. I really wish I’d had known these triggers before reading or I’d have waited to read at a later time when I wasn’t dealing with my own emotional personal things as well. It was pretty triggering for me and I cried a lot. Usually I turn to romance as my happy place with guaranteed happily ever afters but I found this time to be more upset reading this than I’d normally be. It was a great story and well written of course, love Lynsay Sands books.

Needs a different reader

The book itself is a good enough read -typical Lynsay Sands writing if you’re familiar. This particular book has never been a favorite of mine in this series and she tends to use too many modern terminology in her dialogue. However it’s still a decent story and I read it anyway since it’s part of the series.

The big problem here is the man reading it for audible. I don’t often leave reviews beyond stars, but the way this man is reading the story is horrible enough that I had to write something. First of all, when he’s not doing character voices he sounds incredibly bored. Which, I get that someone might just want the money from reading and doesn’t care if it’s a romance or whatever else, but at least try to make an effort. Not only does the voice sound bored but it sounds like an old timey radio show host from the 30’s. I actually had to stop listening because his reading drove me insane.
