About this listen

A widow at twenty-six, Primrose Bloom returns to idyllic Good Hope, Wisconsin, with her two rambunctious young boys, seeking the beauty of the lakeside landscape and the comfort of home. After the loss of her husband and her job, all she's looking for is peace.

Prim is resolved not to date again until her boys are in college, but her will starts crumbling whenever she's around her former high school debate partner, Max Brody - who just happens to live in the charming cottage next door. Max has reservations of his own about giving love a second chance and is determined to keep his distance. But when the two pair up to work on the town's Fourth of July celebration, the fireworks over Green Bay aren't the only sparks flying. Are Prim and the small-town boy she left behind perfectly wrong for each other...or perfectly right?

Second chance romance, yes!

This is a wonderful small-town second chance romance featuring Primrose Bloom and Max Brody. We met both of these characters in the first book in this series (Christmas in Good Hope) but it isn't entirely necessary to have read that installment before diving into this one. However, I do think it is more enjoyable to read them in order as there are little details here and there that you pick up along the way that come back to you once you get further along in the series.

Prim has recently moved back to her hometown of Good Hope with her two young boys after losing her first husband in an accident. She and Max were friends long ago in high school. When Prim moves back to town, she ends up living near Max and her young boys also end up on the ball team that Max coaches. The two also end up working closely on organizing the town's annual Fourth of July parade, which is a big deal in the area. With so much proximity, the two pick up on their friendship as if no time has passed at all and before long, there are feelings growing not only between Prim and Max--Prim's sons and Max are becoming increasingly attached to each other.

I love so much about this story, but there are three things that stick out to me more than anything else:

> Max is quick to let Prim know how he feels about her, which gives her time to process her grief and move thru this process and toward a relationship with him for the entirety of the story instead of in the latter third of quarter of the story. I LOVE THIS. I love the way these characters talk through the way they are feeling instead of keeping things bottled up or supposing. Love love love!
> this community is great - small town vibe, complete with a few meddlesome folks
> wonderful sister relationship between Primrose Bloom and her three other sisters

Amy McFadden is perfect for the narration in these stories. I've grown used to her reading these characters since I've listened to the first two audios in this series multiple times. I really couldn't imagine anyone else as one of the Bloom sisters. I think Ms. McFadden's performance of the secondary character Hadley is my favorite - Hadley gets her own book a little later in this series, and I'm excited to hear that one on audio as well.

Not My Hope

I just couldn't get into this. Maybe if I was 10 it would have helped.

Like the book, dislike the narration

I've listened to the first book and hoped the narration would be less irritating. Unfortunately she didn't get any better.
