About this listen

“Spellbinding. Another outstanding novel by Kimberly Belle, masterfully written to lure you in and never let go.” (Samantha Downing, USA Today best-selling author of My Lovely Wife)

When Charlotte married the wealthy widower Paul, it caused a ripple of gossip in their small lakeside town. They have a charmed life together, despite the cruel whispers about her humble past and his first marriage. But everything starts to unravel when she discovers a young woman’s body floating in the exact same spot where Paul’s first wife tragically drowned.

At first, it seems like a horrific coincidence, but the stranger in the lake is no stranger. Charlotte saw Paul talking to her the day before, even though Paul tells the police he’s never met the woman. His lie exposes cracks in their fragile new marriage, cracks Charlotte is determined to keep from breaking them in two.

As Charlotte uncovers dark mysteries about the man she married, she doesn’t know what to trust - her heart, which knows Paul to be a good man, or her growing suspicion that there’s something he’s hiding in the water.

Narrator was the worst I have ever heard. Whined through the entire book. Story line would have been much better without all the poor pitiful me the heroine presented .
Would not recommend this book or narrator

Didn't think I would like it, but I did. Narrator had a lot to do with it. Once I learned how to listen to her voice and not scoff at her lisp, she actually drew me in. It was a very enjoyable book and a life lesson that the grass is not always greener.

SURPRISE

I chose this title from the audio sample. Its very important me that the narrator adds to the personality of the key player. I loved the easygoing drawl this narrator used for the main character, Charlie. She performed the other voices ok, without screeching or overdone attempts at baritone for the male voices, though she did all the male voices the same. I'm quite particular about narration, since I read very fast. Narration must add to the entire experience since it takes so much longer to listen to a book instead of reading it.
The storyline and plot were good, the setting well described, and pacing done with good timing. I did figure out early on who the main bad guy was, but that was probably because the author was so realistic about human nature and personality types. The entire story was plausible. I cannot stand books that are so far fetched that I'm constantly reminded that I am reading poorly written fiction, the kind that has me repeating, "That would never happen!" I want to be caught up in a story, taken away and entertained. This audio book did all that.
What I enjoyed most about the book was definitely the narration. I recommend a listen to those who prefer character driven fiction.

Great listen

This is a personal preference but after hours of the book, the readers voice began to get on my nerves.
The story was OK but I wasn’t invested.

My attention wasn’t held

This was a very good mystery suspense story. It was all about the main character finding a dead woman in the lake and what this unraveled about her husband’s past. Was her husband keeping secrets about his past? Was he honest with her?? And now that she found out she is pregnant, what does that mean for her?? The characters were well defined. Narrator did a good job. Would be interested in a sequel!?!?!?

A Good Story
