  • How to make universally flawed corporate policies work in your favor
  • Why showing too much passion for your ideas can be career suicide
  • Why delivering results should never be your highest priority

Would you listen to Stealing the Corner Office again? Why?

I would listen to this book again and again. Brendan in this book gets under the covers of what it takes to rise in the ranks of Corporate America (or corporate anywhere for this matter)

What was one of the most memorable moments of Stealing the Corner Office?

False previous last-century practices such as Results-Oriented philosophy and holding other people in the organization accountable at the peer level.

Which scene was your favorite?

The summary chapter which contains a plan for advancing one's career.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I had extreme reaction and I did laugh a lot.

Any additional comments?

This book is so real that I felt that Brendan was sitting in the cubicle next to me and my co-workers. Before reading the book, I thought the situation I was in was really unique to me. it turned out it is not. Stagnant smart workers are all over corporate America and the incompetent managers are all over the place.

Brendan re-affirmed what I already knew about the reasons leading to promotion in an organization. I knew it was not technical skills or always proving that you are right and the others are wrong or being passionate about something and pushing it down the throats of co-workers and peers. I knew all that but I did not know why or what is the alternative.

Now I know that I need to really spend the effort and the time to manage my career by putting a promotion plan. I almost feel now that my career was auto pilot and I was waiting for someone to recognize the awesome stuff I was doing but I kept waiting in vain. This book explains fully and in a nice narrative manner how to manage your career.

Read it or listen to it.

This was a great book! It's straight to the point, succinct with its messaging. I am going to listen to it again!

The author provides many important points I wish I would have learned in college. Most readers will be able to identify with the different types of individuals the author discusses in the book. The author explains how these people get ahead in their careers and what we can learn from them. Great read!!

Things I should have learned in graduate school!

Any additional comments?

Definitely a good book for people who wish to climb the corporate ladder. It has a narrow focus on corporate success, so don't look here if you want to start a business or learn about personal finance. Some of the pieces of advice seem to contradict each other, but if you're smart you can pick out the techniques that will work in your workplace.

Somewhat Cynical, but Realistic

Any additional comments?

There's nothing sinister about this book at all. The title may be a put-off, but I found the book to be a pragmatic approach to managing one's career. This book showed me almost immediately how many of the ideas I *thought* would lead to career success were actually holding me back. It also gave me some practical steps to make improvements right away.It is unfortunate that corporate America is NOT a meritocracy, but this book shows how to successfully play by actual rules of the game.

Useful, Pragmatic and Unfortunately Accurate
