About this listen

Feuding with his houseguest's brother and torn between worry and frustration over his twin, Slate MacAllister brings the rural doctor to his ranch in a record-breaking snow storm to save the boy Slate loves like a son. Dr. Becky O'Donald is a city girl stuck in Nowhereville, Montana, trying to hack down her massive student loan debt. Thrown into a medical nightmare by MacAllister and certain there is more going on with the lonely, melancholy Amelia, Becky is taken aback by the boy mirroring her host down to the dimple in his cheek.

Closeted on the sprawling ranch, surrounded by white, Becky fights the pull of the country life and the man exuding it. Certain he's with Amelia, the boy is his, and he's lying about having a brother, Becky denies her heart. But how long can she hold out against the man who rides to her rescue and kisses her knees weak?

Almost Okay

Would you try another book from Bonnie R. Paulson and/or Jenifer Krist?

No.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Better editing of the story. There were some big issues with believe-ability regarding the medical stuff. But, I may be picky since I work in the medical field. But it wasn't just that. There were other leaps of believability throughout.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Jenifer Krist?

Someone who has more emotion that's for sure. She gets an A for enunciation and a D for performance.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Likely not.

Any additional comments?

The story has its moments that are cute. And I may not have been so critical if I'd read it. The narration took away so much from the story. It was like William Shatner/Capt. Kirk was reading it. Inappropriate stops and pauses.

Loved the premise and authors presentation of story and characters.

Becky is the doctor in a small town in Montana. During a raging blizzard a man falls off his horse right at the clinic door. She brings him in and gets him on his feet. Slate is there to get help for his young nephew. Becky thinks he is the father of the boy and is married to the mother as the man and boy look just alike. She tries not to be interested in Slate but he is hard to resist. Has action, intrigue and betrayal. Good narration.

A little disappointing

The overall story line was pretty good, but I felt like there was a disproportionate amount of set up for following stories ( which I would Like to read) and not enough on the couple the story was about. The ending relationship wasn't very satisfying for me. And the whole "She-Doc" thing sounded awkward. Narration sounded more forced than a natural rhythm... Not as flowing as people typically speak.

Poor Narrative

Did not care for narrator. Not much emotion. More just reading. Performance would be better with more distinct character voices.

It was okay.

I did not like the narrator. The story is good but could have been better with a different narrator.

interesting story

while I didn't love this story there were parts of it that I really enjoyed. I loved the heroine Becky was a Doctor and a good one. The inter family stuff was a little much. But I love me a cowboy and his horse. I also loved how much Slate loved his nephew Mac. that was amazing.

Enjoyable story

Both the author Bonnie R Paulson and narrator Jennifer Krist are new to me. The story was entertaining , however I could not connect with the narrator.
The characters were good but I just could not get past the narration which to me was flat and. It appeared that their was no connection between the narrator and the story that they were reading. This is a shame as It he story itself was entertaining.
Becky is a doctor in a small town in Montana and Slate asks her to help his nephew who is sick. Miss communication occurs and that brought a smile to my face as both Becky and Slate struggle with the attraction they felt for one another.
Although I did not connect to this book, it was more about the performance than the book itself and it will not stop me from listening to other books from this author. I received a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review, all opinions expressed are my own.

Poorly written and very poor narration.

Would you try another book from Bonnie R. Paulson and/or Jenifer Krist?

Poorly written and very poor narration. Characters are so immature and uninteresting. I will not try another book from these authors.

What do you think your next listen will be?

I am currently listening to "Death of a Dapper Snowman (Book 1 of a Humorous Cozy Murder Mystery Series): Stormy Day Mystery #1" and am enjoying the human interest/personalities, and humor from the author. Additionally, the narrator has a good voice, and one that sounds the correct age for the characters. So many sound like they are 12 years old.

Would you be willing to try another one of Jenifer Krist’s performances?

Absolutely not. It is like listening to a 12 year old read - not only immature, but no interesting vocal abilities - just reading.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

No.

Narrator' Valley Girl'

Would you try another book from Bonnie R. Paulson and/or Jenifer Krist?

The story line wasn't half bad but the Narrator read it as if she where a valley girl. With very little punctuation and no expression except for the silly teenage girl attitude. not good.
