About this listen

A Primarchs Anthology

The primarchs, nigh-immortal sons of the Emperor of Mankind, take the stage in a series of short stories showcasing some of their great deeds and hideous acts from across the Great Crusade and the Horus Heresy.

LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE

Whether you see them as heroes, villains, or victims of the Emperor's machinations, these tales will give you a different perspective on a host of primarchs – including Angron, Vulkan, Magnus the Red, and Horus himself.

DESCRIPTION

From their shadowed origins to the desperate battles that ensued when half of their number rebelled against their father, the sons of the Emperor – the vaunted primarchs – were among the mightiest champions of the nascent Imperium, warriors without peer, and heroes whose actions became legend. Whether you seek the angel Sanguinius, who confronted the dark nature of his bloodthirsty Legion, or mighty Vulkan, whose connection to humanity set him apart amongst his brothers, or dour Perturabo, architect, inventor and murderous warlord, or even Horus Lupercal, whose shining light was eclipsed only by the darkness that grew within his soul – this anthology covers eight of the primarchs and their greatest, darkest deeds.

Great Anthology

Probably my favorite Warhammer anthology. mostly set in the Great Crusade era, some post-heresy without a definitive year or era.

ADB and Dan Abnett

This is a good compilation of stories. Aaron and Dan are two most amazing wordsmith that BL has to offer. Highly recommend.

Better than 1/2 the Primarch Novels

It’s wild that half these short stories are better and more thought out than half the stand alone Primarch Novels.

fantastic voice acting, great 30k/40k lore pieces

Absolutely thrilled Chris Tester is voice acting for Black Library. More 40k narrations from this guy, please.

solid collection of stories

this collection is likely most well known for the popular short story, The Ancient Awaits, but I wouldn't advise anyone skip any other story to get there. There are no duds here. All stories contain a satisfying peek into the mind, makings, or methods of a primarch.

Amazing Performance

Christopher Yester once again has proven that he is right at home with Black Library and I hope to hear even more books narrated by him.

Expertly Narrated, Some Fantastic Stories

The narrator is far and away the highlight of this audiobook. He gives each character a unique voice, and the performance is just excellent.

The stories are mostly good. I greatly enjoyed the Night Lords one, and Rylanor getting some semblance of revenge was just…chefs kiss.

Do yourself (and the rest of us) a favor, get this book, then leave a review saying you want more of this narrator in the 40K audiobooks.

A well acted, mostly dull anthology.

Personally most of this anthology felt very weak to me writing wise, with only the final two stories being of any real interest. Those final two stories however, I believe are quite worth the listen. Also worth the listen is the voice acting performance, with voices that I feel most embody some of the primarchs key traits. Not only are the key characters voices fitting, but the character voices remain different enough to understand who is speaking, while not being so different that the narrator sounds cartoony.
