Winner: Utopia Con LGBTQ+ Book of the Year

"A romance novel meant for the masses. For all humans, for all readers, for all love." (Nicky F. Grant, award-winning author of Behind the Masks)

"EVERYONE needs to read this book! Riveting, electric, and poignant. Emma does not waste her words. Every sentence, every line of this story was magic." (Kate Stewart, USA Today best-selling author)

How long would you wait for love?

Max Kaufman was kicked out of his home as a teen, and his life has been an uphill battle ever since. From addiction and living on the streets, to recovery and putting himself through nursing school, he’s spent the last 10 years rebuilding his shattered sense of self. Now he’s taken a job as a private caretaker to Edward Marsh III, the president and CEO of one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world. Max soon learns Marsh’s multibillion-dollar empire is a gold- and diamond-encrusted web of secrets and lies.

The longer Max works and lives with the Marsh family, the tighter the secrets tangle around him. And his heart - which he’s worked so hard to protect - falls straight into the hands of the distant, cold, and beautiful son of a dynasty....

Silas Marsh is set to inherit the family fortune, but his father is determined his heir be the “perfect” son. Before Silas can take over the company and end its shady business practices, he must prove himself worthy...and deny his true nature.

Silas must choose: stand up to his father by being true to himself and his undeniable feelings for Max or pretend to be someone he is not in order to inherit everything. Even if it means sacrificing a chance at happiness and real love.

Best of the best

Greg Tremblay and Zachary Johnson deliver everything to this already outstanding story. Emma Scott has terrific writing chops to blend great primary and secondary characters, despair, love, angst, and pain. Every emotion has you praying Silas and Max can find their way through hell to one another. Dastardly father and sweet tormented brother with emotional/psychological issues. This is the second book I’ve listened to with narrator Zachary Johnson. He’s excellent. I hope we get more MM from him. Highly recommended.

More Than a Simple Book

The major plot line of this book is obviously patterned on the Purdue Pharma OxiContin scandal. The major difference is in the book the owners of the company ultimately took responsibility for their company’s actions and made financial restitution for the aggressive marketing to their victims. In real life the extended family that owned Purdue Pharma forestalled legal action so they sold out their shares leaving the company’s corpse/assets and new owners to be consumed by bankruptcy judgements by the victim’s claims. In selecting the above plot line the author, Emma Scott, allows us to see the injustice between her fictional just solution and real life legal but morally unjust solution. She also provides a great background to set the love story of our two protagonists, Max and Silas. She also explores the horrors of addiction (Alcoholics’ Anomalous and Narcotics Anomalous) and PTSD gay deprogramming trauma. The audiobook is more then capably narrated by the team of Greg Tremblay and Zachary Johnson. The upshot is a great book that satisfies both on an emotional and intellectual level as well as the aesthetically pleasing narration.

More than what I expected

This is not a typical gay love story. Some of the portrayed events in this book hit too close to home (sadly), but it brings you to tears, laughter, and heartwarming love. Should be everyone’s must read no matter what your viewpoint may be as it demonstrates true compassion, respect and apathy to do the right things in life.

All the love

I loved this story when it first came out in print and nothing has changed in Audible. An emotional story with amazing characters.

I’m a HUGE Greg Tremblay fan. His narration was perfection as always.

This was my first listen to Zachary Johnson and I’m a bit on the fence. I didn’t hate it but I didn’t love it. It did not deter me from the story though. His voice is just a lot deeper than what I normally prefer.

My new favorite author!

This is my 4th book by Emma Scott and I’ve not been disappointed! Beautiful stories with depth and complexity. I love the brother’s role in this one!

Someday… a prince will come

Ms. Scott, truly a Bach or a Beethoven, with her baton in a marvelous way being the writers pen. I look forward to her next adventure.

Rollercoaster ride, but completely worth all the angst

It’s been some time since I’ve listened to Greg Tremblay, because I’ve been obsessing on Zane Daniels for a while, but these two were terrific together. If anything, Mr. Tremblay’s voice acting chops have gone from excellent to exceptional, and Mr. Daniels’ are always exceptional (Okay, I may be a little biased, since I fell in love with his voice in Zercy). Between the beautifully-told story and those voices, I couldn’t stop listening.

Silas’ back story was a horror show and the fact that he overcame it at all was a tribute to his strength, even though he almost lost the man who helped him overcome it. And, I assume the drug in question was modeled on the Oxycontin story. There’s no question this addiction cost a lot of lives and that certainly deserves to be talked about; it was done well in this book. The only criticism I have is that here, as in real life, the drug is taken away from literally millions of patients who suffer crippling, life-altering chronic pain and depend on it just to function on a day-to-day basis. It would have been nice to have seen a solution other than just stopping manufacture of it.

The intimate scenes seemed a little abbreviated; they could have been a bit longer and a bit less fade-to-black. But, overall, I loved the book. 10/10 highly recommend.

Wow

This story has a lot of angst, a lot of heartbreak, and a lot of well-earned moments of true emotion. Narration absolutely on point. Really well done.

All the feels!!

What an amazing story that needs to be heard. The love, the angst, the support, the ugly phobias, and everything in between! I highly recommend this book and the narrators just took it to the next level!

One of the Best

I think I overlook this author but when I scroll through the MM stories of hers, I have all of them and I love all of them. Before I started strictly listening to MM I listened to some of her MF books and turns out those are some of my favorites as well. As a matter of fact, one of the characters in one of the MF, is my all time fave MMC. Safe to say you can't go wrong with an Emma Scott book. The narrators she has are on point as well. This particular story is one of the best I've ever read. Top notch in every way. The story is touching and engaging. The narrators are superb as always. I can't recommend this one high enough! If this one comes rec'd to you, believe the hype!
