About this listen

The 17th novel of the Hugo-nominated, New York Times best-selling October Daye urban fantasy series.

October is very happy with her life as the second daughter of her pureblood parents, Amandine and Simon Torquill. Born to be the changeling handmaid to her beloved sister August, she spends her days working in her family’s tower, serving as August’s companion, and waiting for the day when her sister sets up a household of her own. Everything is right in October’s Faerie. Everything is perfect.

Everything is a lie.

October has been pulled from her own reality and thrown into a twisted reinterpretation of Faerie where nothing is as it should be and everything has been distorted to support Titania’s ideals. Bound by the Summer Queen’s magic and thrust into a world turned upside down, October has no way of knowing who she can trust, where she can turn, or even who she really is. As strangers who claim to know her begin to appear and the edges of Titania’s paradise begin to unravel, Toby will have to decide whether she can risk everything she knows based on only their stories of another world.

But first she’ll have to survive this one, as Titania demonstrates why she needed to be banished in the first place—and this time, much more than Toby’s own life is at stake.

Rich and lovely, with lots of clever faerie magic

**potential spoilers** I must admit to bewilderment at the beginning: this was not the October I remember. Am I listening to the right book? Even so, I loved the deep, formal magic, the woven strands of story building a world I loved being immersed in. Then, discovering the secret by tiny sips broke open my confusion. And I loved it! Great action. Terrific magic. Tense moments. And a completely satisfying ending. Can’t wait for the next installment! Oh. And the reader, who adopts intriguing voices for each character, is a joy to listen to. Highly recommended.

Another October Adventure

Pretty cool different pov from October. I think it's great that her family and adopted family always come through. I don't want to give anything away, but listen with an open mind if you didn't read the description first. I like the surprise of reading the next in the series without reading the description first. Stick with it, and you'll enjoy another top-notch adventure! I can't ever say enough of how much I love this world and the characters in it. The gal reading it is amazing every time.

Not my favorite of the series, but good

Understandably, October is a little off for most of this book. While I get that she should be very different, it still felt like a drag at times. October was pulled forward by the plot rather than her chasing it, and while the tension and payoff was great, it made for a very different sort of book.

Wonderfully excruciating

I LIVED this book. However, this was likely the hardest in the series for me to listen to because I HATE when Tybalt and Toby are separated from each other. Once we got further into the story, I could listen more regularly. Seanan McGuire is a master at pulling you into her world and making you care deeply and empathize with her characters. This book was no different and maybe even more so.

I’m not sure

I’m not sure how to rate the story as my complaints are all spoilers. Seanan did an excellent job, but this Toby is not the Toby I love and wait every year for. You MUST read this book because it’s part of the whole story. Just remember the previous books ending and remember who our hero truly is.

Can’t wait for the next book!

I loved this book, even though it confused me at the start. I wondered if maybe this was a prequel or that I had accidentally downloaded the books out of order. Anyway, I trusted Seanan and she did not disappoint. I have loved every book in the series and can’t wait for book 18 to drop in just 3 weeks!! Mary Robinette Kowal was amazing as always. I can’t imagine anyone else narrating these novels! You won’t be disappointed.

pulled me in from the very first

Sleep No More pulled me in from the very first page as things in Faerie are upside down and the Toby we know is lost to us…. Holy crap. After the events of Be the Serpent and that killer ending, well … I had to jump right in. We find ourselves in an alternate Faerie. One where Toby lives with her parents, Amandine and Simon Torquill, along with her sister, August. She doesn’t remember Tybalt or Quentin or Mae, not even the Sea Witch triggers memories of her other life.

What a twisted tale with the evilest of villains. I devoured this from start to finish and held my breath, waiting and needing everything to go back… for Toby to go back to her friends and Tybalt. McGuire outdid herself, as did Mary Robinette Kowal with her narration. She grabbed the alternate world and ran with it.

Loved it

I loved this book as much as the others. A great way to make changes and look at the characters in a different way.
