About this listen

Previously published as Starlet by Cora Kenborn

Hollywood. Mafia. Love. Lust. Secrets. Corruption. From USA Today best-selling author Cora Kenborn comes a dark and twisted enemies-to-lovers retelling of Anastasia.

They call me America's Sweetheart. Hollywood royalty. The last of an era. Sole survivor of LA's most infamous crime. I'm not any of those things. He forced me into the spotlight. Dominic McCallum - a torn page from my tainted past. The liar with the perfect smile and cold blue eyes. We're playing a high-stakes game. Resurrect an icon and share a million-dollar payout. One wrong move, and history repeats itself.

But Alexandra Romanov's fate won't be mine. I'll speak her lines. I'll hit the mark. I'll strike a pose. And when the past and present collide, I'll become their worst nightmare. After all, wrath is the sixth of the seven deadly sins.... They told me to preserve the legacy.

Be careful what you ask for.... You just might get it.

Please be aware this book contains dark themes and sensitive subject matter that are essential to the story line but may bother some listeners.

Outstanding🎧📚🎧 An Enthralling & Thrilling Ride!

Wow, this book not only blew me away, it blew my mind too! Cora Kenborn is a gifted author with a brilliant mind and that brilliance is reflected in this novel. The story, a retelling of Anastasia in Cora Kenborn style, grabbed my attention right from the start and captivated it the entire book, this is one of those books that once you pick up you can not put down because you need to know what happens next. The characters are complex and well developed, they are easy to relate to and connect with, so much so they get in your head and you start to feel for them. Dominic McCallum did not have an easy life, when he was younger his Mother had stars in her eyes and wanted to make it big in Hollywood, unfortunately that did not work out for her, it actually ruined her leaving Dominic not only fending for himself but for his Mother too. His life forever changes after crossing the wrong person, Luciano, an underworld crime boss. An older Dominic is in the media business he has plans to take down those responsible for breaking his mother, only it backfires and almost ruins him. He has a plan to bring Alexandra Romanov to life, the Romanov family was massacred years ago, but her body was not discovered, she is believed to be alive and there is a reward for her return. Dominic has a plan and that include a waitress in Chula Vista. Angel Smith an inspiring actress was not exactly on board with Dominic’s plan but her friend Violet helped with making it happen. Cora Kenborn masterminded an intricate plot, there is plenty of drama, angst, heartfelt emotions, some thrilling and suspenseful moments, mystery, twists and turns, just went you think you have something figured out she pulls the rug out from under you. In addition to all that we have an amazing enemies to lovers romance, but were they really ever enemies. Cora Kenborn, thank you for another awesome story and emotional rollercoaster ride, I love, love, loved that mind-blowing ending and how you placed all the pieces together, wow, just wow! Loved Nonny Moose too!

🎧📚🎧And for the wonderful narration, Mollie Star and Tanner DeBruyne are the perfect cast to bring these characters and their story to life. They did an awesome job portraying the characters, humanizing them, giving each their own distinct voice and personality. They had a complete understanding of the roles they played, sounding believable and just as I pictured each character to sound. Tanner DeBruyne nailed the role as Dominic, Mollie Star did the same for Angel/Alexandria. Both were great playing the secondary roles as well. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all of the characters emotions and projected them into their performance. Both are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for the great listen, I am looking forward to hearing more of your work soon.

Dark, sexy, and oh so surprising!

This book took me by complete surprise. At first, it’s moving along, as I would generally anticipate. A modern day Anastasia inspired story, with heavy mafia and Hollywood elite undertones. Dominic and Angel join forces to claim a one million dollar reward for the return of the lost Romanov heir, who disappeared the night of the horrific murder of her entire family. Working as a waitress in a dive bar, and barely scraping by, Angel is not on board with Dominic’s scheme at first - plus, he’s a big part of the reason she left Hollywood a few years prior. But a nudge by her best friend, and the right incentives from Dominic have her changing her mind. Dominic is the owner of a tabloid newsmagazine - his main goal is to take down those who are abusing their power in nefarious ways. But he crossed the wrong celeb, and now he’s finding himself on the verge of bankruptcy, desperate for the cash that the reward would provide.

But there is so much more to this story. Angel has no memory of her early childhood, and the past she does remember has been troubled, to say the least. And Dominic has his own sordid past, Mafia connections and his own list of unsavory activities. Still, the story moves in a direction that you might expect….. Until BAM - the entire thing takes a hard left. It then ripped my heart out, jumped up and down on it, beat it to a bloody pulp, and then proceeded to hand it back to me with a “oh you might be needing this”. The mystery surrounding the number 6; that alone nearly gutted me. The last 25% of the book had me completely on edge, and the last four chapters nearly gave me a coronary. Does this book have an HEA? Yes. But did I question that HEA almost right to the absolute end of the book? Definitely yes. And was the book worth the heartache? Absolutely YES.

Audiobook review - the audio narration is great. The narrators fit the characters and their personalities very well. They definitely add to the deep emotional aspect of the story and pull the reader in even more!

Dark Hollywood Mafia Romance

Sixth Sin by Cora Kenborn is a dark Hollywood mafia romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Mollie Stark and Tanner DeBruyne.

The book does come with a caution/warning: "Please be aware this book contains dark themes and sensitive subject matter that are essential to the storyline but may bother some readers."

This is the third book of Cora’s that I have read and it definitely won’t be my last. The book had a lot of twists and turns that kept me hooked until the very end. I loved the relationship that bloomed between Angel and Dominic. I really enjoyed getting Angel, Dominic, and Luciano's points of view. It really brought the story to life.

Mollie and Tanner did an amazing job on the narration. They both really know how to bring a story to life. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.

I would recommend this book if you like dark romances, mafia romances, romantic suspense, or psychological thrillers.

Beautiful Hollywood images come to mind.

I am so happy I purchased this book. A starlet, secrets, mafia undertones. It had everything I love in romance books but this had an in-depth story that was so interesting. I have to say, I've never listened to either narrator but both Mollie Stark and Tanner DeBruyne are two new favorites for me. The story telling was descriptive and allowed me to a paint a full picture in my head of the setting from the offices, the mansion, the city. I kept imagining old Hollywood the whole time. It's definitely a different kind of story and absolutely worth the credit and the time. Amazing!

Wow, just wow

I don’t even know how to review this. I spent 70% of the book hating it. Dominic was the absolute worst MMC in existence, and I’ve read a lot of bully trope books. I actually started writing down the horrible things he did, so I could write about it in this review. I’ve never done that before. This book was shaping up to be a solid 1 freaking star. Then sh!t happened and kept happening, and the author handled it freaking phenomenally.

Dominic never apologized for or even really acknowledged all the evil sh!t he did. He just did a sudden about face, and that was that. All the stuff from before was just forgotten.

And Angel…don’t even get me started. He never treated her well, he was a complete a$$. But she just got over it. I don’t think so. She never even talked or even thought about the sh!t he did to her. There were a few things about her character I think could have been handled differently. I think it would have helped me understand a little better. I kept rewinding to listen again, because it wasn’t making sense. Took me out of the story quite a bit.

The spice was sparse and just meh.

The narration was really good. Duet narration would have made a huge difference though.

Wow!! What a story!

I am still processing this crazy story filled with shocking lies to protect the truth. It is an elaborate retelling of the Anastasia story but made into an adult tale. I literally fell down into the rabbit hole while listening to this. This twisty story really kept me on my toes and kept my ears and brain engaged. I enjoyed each of the characters. They really had me following their tale while trying to figure out what really happened.

I did listen to this on audio. The narration is very well done as they brought these characters to life. This will be going on my favorites to be listened to over and over
