About this listen

“I don't know how my life would be different if I never had my sister, but I do know that the steadiness in how I stand in the world is in large part because she exists.”

Two sisters—one a playwright, one a preacher—excavate their evolving bond. Swinging between irreverent humor and achy tenderness, Sistering: The Art of Holding Close and Letting Go is for anyone who has been lucky enough to find their number one fan, and for those still searching.

With honesty, laughter, adoration, and a few choice swear words, author-sisters Danielle Neff and Jessica Dickey look together at their lives and the love that makes it all worthwhile.

Critic reviews

Like a timeless ballad sung in perfect two-part harmony, Sistering is an absolute delight, and unlike anything I think I’ve ever read. It has all of the warmth and momentum of a great love story and at the same time raises searching, serious questions about love itself—raises them, though, in the context of a richly and sometimes hilariously narrated family history. More, please? Carol Lee Flinders, PhD, author of Enduring Grace: Living Portrait of Seven Women Mystics

As I turn the pages devouring each masterful vignette, I think of my brothers. A lump in my throat; a smile on my face. Sistering could easily be re-titled Brothering. Somehow these writers have beautifully captured us all. Griffin Matthews, actor (The Flight Attendant, She-Hulk, Dear White People)

We absolutely inhaled this book! As two incredibly tight sisters, it was cathartic to have so much of what encompasses our bond be articulated in such a delightful, colorful, raw way. We did not want it to end. Ashley Williams and Kimberly Williams-Paisley, actors, writers, best friends, and sisters

Simply Wonderful!

I'd like to say that I was reluctant to purchase this book for two reasons. First, the title led me to believe that this book is written by women for women. Also, the book is narrated by the author(s). I have made the mistake many times of purchasing audiobooks narrated by the author only to be disappointed. Narrating audiobooks requires a skill above and beyond the written prose.
What I've found: A raw, honest, visceral, funny yet at times sad, personal memoir of the deep connection and relationship between two people, who just happen to be sisters. This book is written for everyone! Their stories will keep you listening even after you arrive at your destination while sitting in the parking lot.
Jessica Dickey and Danielle Neff should go in the Audible "best narrator" list. Their telling of their stories brought it to life, I can hear the pain in Jess' voice when she didn't answer the call, or the love in Danielle's tone while describing her children. Their tone and cadence are easy on the ear. It's like a warm blanket and hot chocolate on a cold winter's day.
My only negative...well, there isn't one!
Bravo! Bravo! Encore!
