About this listen

A small town, close proximity romance from New York Times and Wall Street Journal best-selling author Kristen Proby.

Remi Carter has survived her fifteen minutes of fame and is putting LA in her rearview mirror. As a former reality show contestant, she’s trading staged expeditions and faked wilderness tours for real adventures. Only one fluke storm in Glacier National Park has her stranded with a handsome man, and adventure takes on a whole new meaning.

Seth King is as rugged and sexy as he is annoyed to be trapped with Remi. Probably because she ghosted him at the local bar not three days ago. But she’s got her reasons for ditching him, and 24 hours in an abandoned Montana cabin with the wildlife biologist isn’t nearly enough time to explain.

As tempting as he is by firelight, she’s been burned too many times.

Except one day together and suddenly her travel van doesn’t hold as much appeal. The open road feels lonely. Remi’s about to learn that shelter is more than a safe place to weather a storm.

Shelter might just be the man himself. If he can give her a reason to stay.

Great cast of Characters

I love this sweet and emotional story. Seth's story is hard to read about but the love he receives from his new family has created a loving and sexy hero. I love visiting with some past couples and the narrators did a great job. I highly recommend this book and the whole series.

Definitely a must for your Proby collection

I can't believe Seth is all grown up! It makes sense when I actually think about it but I've always thought of Seth as a little boy. such a great book!

Fierce Heroine, Alpha Yet Vulnerable Hero

This was the book I desperately needed and it gave me everything I wanted. Seth King is every bit the hero die hard fans are expecting him to be. Remi is quirky, independent, both free spirited and highly organized, if found her to be a very relatable and interesting character. Seth is my favorite kind of Alpha hero. He's a genuinely good person, Alpha AF but also with a past that has broken him and left scars. We get additional details about his life before he returned to Montana and it will break your heart. I couldn't put this book down and I tried to read slow so it wouldn't end. There is some drama and push and pull, but Remi and Seth, while both damaged behave like adults, and talk through their issues. I do think this book should have a trigger warning, and i am including it at the bottom of my review in case there are those who want to avoid the warning.

This story has a bit of instalove, but there was still plenty of courting and tension as the Remi and Seth meet, start dating and fall in love. All my favorite characters from Cunningham Falls make an appearance. And it was so heartwarming to see Cara and Jillian all these years later as moms. Kristen Proby creates great big families with lots of love and laughter and there are definitely a few scenes where you get to experience all of that.

I can not say enough great things about this book. I will definitely be reading it in Audio when it comes out and I recommend it to everyone! This will definitely be a reread for me.

The audio of this book is so so good! Jason Clarke is simply delicious as Seth! He gets the Alpha and the vulnerability of Seth's trauma, and Samantha Brentmoor is the perfect Remi. This is definitely going on the reread list!

I received an arc of this book and voluntarily give my review.

5 'Home' Stars

Wow, oh wow... I can't believe that Seth King, the little boy who stole my heart on the first Big Sky novel, is not only all grown up but hot damn... Drool worthy in every way! Remi is THE perfect match for his grounded and broken soul, they proved two halves can indeed make a wholesome heart!

This small town romance checks all my romance lover's boxes, with the King family, my beloved OG Under The Big Sky's couples, taking center stage with this second generation tale. Seth is now, for me, the epitome of small town romance hero and Remi, with her adventurous nature, the perfect counterpart for this quiet and stability loving soul. This story is as heart warming as can be! Bring on more Big Sky Heroes!!!

Small Town Romance at Its Best

This is the first book I have read of this series. I can honestly say that you don’t need to read the rest of the series to enjoy this book. It’s easy to fall in love with these cast of characters. This story is small town romance at its best.

Both damaged from their past when Seth and Remi meet they are both leery of relationships and all that comes along with it. While getting to know each other they become each other’s strengths. Never letting the other run. The arcs for both of these characters will make you a happy reader.

I couldn’t get enough of these characters or their stories. I’m looking forward to reading the rest of this series.

Jason Clarke and Samantha Brentmoore did a wonderful job at bringing these characters to life. They brought out the vulnerability and strength of each character. Making the listener become invested in these characters.

Another great listen

This story follows along with the typical KP story line. It's a short, cute HEA read.

Shelter

I really enjoyed this book, I wasn’t sure but it was exactly what I needed at the time. I was kind of in a mood and couldn’t pick the right book.
Then I began listening to this and I was sucked in. I love the dynamic of the family and then of the characters it just flowed and didn’t seem forced like this story could have been you or me. I just thoroughly enjoyed it and I want more.
I love that Seth has the family he does; it wasn’t always that way and the fact that he did have it well it makes me happy. I also love that they take Remi under their wing too because she needs them too.
Great book, great narration. I just want more.

Finding his happily ever after

Seth King was everything you could possibly imagine. Finding the woman of his dreams in a crowded bar soothed the jagged pieces of his soul. Remi gave him an outlet to finally let go of the past and find what his family always wanted for him. Seth was no longer the damaged little boy but a man that found the one place he only belonged. Will he be able to stop Remi from moving on and let her know they belonged together? Kristen Proby is magnificent and draws the reader in and tears at everyone of your heartstrings.

Another great small town romance

I know I can always count on Kristen Proby to deliver a swoon worthy small town romance between amazing characters that I'll fall in love with. And Shelter was no different.
Cunningham Falls is a place that people visit and shortly after, fall in love with some aspect of it.

Seth found his way back there after his mother gave him up when he was young. But boy, did Seth go through A LOT. More than any child should. But he found his way back to his father and made a home for himself with his father, stepmother and the whole King crew. He was one of the lucky ones.
Remi, on the other hand appears to have led a charmed life. She has made a living out of adventures and proving others wrong. She has never felt the love of a parent and she has looked for that in her adventures and by being on her own, by herself. When she happens about Cunningham Falls, there is an immediate attraction at a bar between her and Seth, but she takes off before letting anything go further.

I enjoyed having the first connection between Remi and Seth be on his turf and where she feels at home. That close proximity sort of thing worked for them. It was immediate, fast and pretty sexy, bear and all. From there, it was full speed ahead with little drama. I liked that Ms Proby had it be a sort of lighter story, but I wish that we would've dove deeper into Seth's past since it was such a huge part of who he became and such a prominent part of the prologue that broke me. It could've been an intense and emotionally charged book instead of being glossed over. Same goes for Remi's past. While it wasn't as traumatic as Seth's, I think he really could've pushed this story forward a little more.

With all that said, I liked being back in Cunningham Falls and seeing familiar characters and the love between the King family and the kids. Even if you haven't read any of the Big Sky stories, this one totally stands alone. You'll fall in love with the characters and their love for one another and the way they come together as a family.
As for the audio, the narrators were perfect for Seth and Remi. You can't go wrong when Jason Clarke narrates. He is the perfect narrator for a ranch owner. I just feel he captured the essence of who Seth was. And Samantha Brentmoor, whom I'm not as familiar with really made Remi come alive. She became the character and the two brought the story to reality. I would definitely recommend giving it a listen.
