Bloodsucker holds his breath as he watches Marcy and Jake pass. She’s arguing with her loser husband. He can tell from the way she won’t let him hold her hand. My beautiful swan. You’re too good for him. But you sure let him touch you before.

Bloodsucker walks up the beach, unnoticed by the swan and her husband. It’s as though he’s invisible. They see him but they don’t see him. If they look his way, he just smiles. Waves. They don’t know who he is because everyone knows who he is. That’s best part about it. Marcy knows him, just like Patti did.

Bloodsucker stops at the trash can. He looks up the beach, then down. No one sees him. Marcy and Jake cross the dune and disappear into the parking lot.

Who would think his ugly ducking would turn out so beautiful? He wants her now. He’s sure of it.
