About this listen

With nearly 50 percent of marriages ending in divorce, a growing percentage of women over age 40 choosing not to have children, and more than 3 percent of the population identifying as LGBT, modern life is clearly in need of some modern relationship advice. Sex from Scratch analyzes the facets of contemporary relationships through the struggles, opinions, and experiences of a diverse group of individuals living in nontraditional relationships. Rather than telling listeners how to snag partners and find true love, it gleans real-life knowledge from people of all sexualities and genders--from individuals trying to make open relationships work to those who have opted against having children--distilling their hard-earned wisdom.

Contributions from Andi Zeisler, Stu Rasmussen, Betty Dodson, and others make this love and dating guidebook an essential, fun, and insightful resource for anyone in any type of relationship.

Highly Recommend

I found this book to be incredibly normalizing of non-traditional relationships, gender identity, and sexual expression. If you’re questioning your identity I highly recommend this listen.

Honest & helpful

Although not every chapter resonated with me, I felt like the topics were fairly well covered. The author prefaces with an explanation that these are anecdotal examples… I felt those stories helped personify situations. I often thought, “so, I’m not the only one who…” thinks/feels/does something. It was also easy to follow.

All that I can say is that it is a very interesting read, I don’t agree with everything in the book, but it is very interesting.

not what i expected

I liked the first part (i do recommend the first chapters) but then it went on giving the same "new feminist" discourse I have heard thousands of times... Don't get me wrong, I am a woman and support all humans rights! I would even consider myself as an activist for some topics, especially women and LGBT. But saying over and over again, "no one can force me to marry or to have children", or even, listing the reasons why marriage or having children is somehow a burden is to me going a bit too far (yeah we have heard that a lot, yeah we know, but some of us could enjoy those things and be happy). Any one should make their own decisions and be totally happy with them, WATHEVER it is! I struggled to finish this book and I ended up feeling like the end was too biased and subjective. I would not call this book Sex from Scracth but relationships for lost beginners...
