About this listen

2000: The wreckage of a downed WWII fighter plane is discovered in the forests near Russia's Ukrainian border. The aircraft belonged to Natalya Azarova, ace pilot and pin-up girl for Soviet propaganda, but the question of her fate remains unanswered. Was she a German spy who faked her own death, as the Kremlin claims? Her lover, Valentin Orlov, now a highly-decorated general, refuses to believe it. Lily, a young Australian woman, has moved to Moscow to escape from tragedy. She becomes fascinated by the story of Natalya, and when she meets an elderly woman who claims to know the truth behind the rumours, Lily is drawn deeper into the mystery.

Great book!

Where does Sapphire Skies rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It was better than I thought it was going to be. As usual, Caroline Lee nailed it. Her Russian accent was a little off in some areas but it didn't ruin the story. I purposely look for books she narrates. Her voice is amazing!

Belinda Alexandra Does It Again - AWESOME

Loved this story, it is beautifully written, narrated so well like only Caroline Lee can do it. I think this is the best I have listened to this year. So glad I bought it and highly recommend it.

BRILLIANT

In Sapphire Skies, Belinda Alexandra took me to world I knew almost nothing about - women aviators in Russia. The twists and turns of the story combined with the factual account of much of WWII made this an audio book I just could not stop listening to. I was so sad when it finished. I felt bereft .... like I had lost a friend .... so much did I care for the main characters in the book. Add to that modern day Moscow, the plight of unwanted animals and the brave people who try to save them and the book became two stories woven into one amazing tale. The absolute brilliance of Caroline Lee's performance in reading the book made the whole experience so real .... I really felt I was there with the characters. This is a book not to be missed. Loved It, loved it!!!!

Weaves history and a great story

Would you listen to Sapphire Skies again? Why?

I really like fiction novels which also shed light on historical events- Sapphire Skies was a fantastic story about life before, during and after WWII in Russia. One of my favourite audiobooks so far, though I have enjoyed Belinda Alexandra's other novels.

Amazeballs

Such beautiful detail and a compelling story. Heart and warmth. At one point towards the end I was yelling at a character to do as I wished. I won't give anything away. Just read it or rather, listen to it:)

Absolutely Stellar In Every Way

I find it hard to fathom how an author can generate a perfect work of fiction like this. The story is intriguing, deep, personal, and heartbreaking on many levels. The language is clear and beautifully descriptive without collapsing into purple prose. The narrator did an excellent job shifting between the characters' voices and accents - added to the experience, whereas I often listen to a book only because I want to finish it, gritting my teeth to survive the narrator. Caroline Lee enhanced my listening experience. I hope to find other books she has narrated, and will definitely be listening to Belinda Alexandra's other titles!

Captivating!

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book. The story was captivating and the narrators ability to jump characters was done very well. She made the story come to life! There are so many pieces to this book...heart wrenching tragedy, sweet romance, mystery, action, adventure, triumph and defeat. I miss the characters now that the book is over.
