About this listen

Dylan frowned, "Who are you?" He demanded in a whisper.

"I'll tell you later. For now, kiss me."

He hadn't thought that Blake could get any closer. He was wrong. Blake's body seemed to melt against his, relaxing so that every curve, every line, every inch, was pressed together. He could feel it through the layers of clothing. When Blake kissed him this time, it was strangely slow. He captured Dylan's lips and held them with a firm tenderness that made Dylan's head spin. It had been so long since he had kissed anyone. It had been so long since he had been this close to anyone. He had forgotten what it felt like.

Dylan's mission: assist his Navy SEAL team as they infiltrate enemy territory and gather intel on the new shifter pack called the Shadow Pack through distant observation.

Blake's mission: infiltrate and live within the Shadow Pack and gather any useful information and data from the inside as one of them.

One is a SEAL, and the other is a spy. Their missions were never supposed to cross, yet one fateful accident during a full moon intertwines their fates. Dylan finds himself in the middle of the Shadow Pack and under the charade that he's Blake's mate. They must learn to live and work together, or risk exposing both of their covers, and Dylan's team. Blake is charming, flirty, cocky, and irritating; yet Dylan finds himself strangely drawn to the man. Blake's strength of will and patience are put to the test, but Blake is patient, and he's not willing to give up so easily.

Nice story

I liked the story but the narration was awful. It was like listening to a text book being read. Probably won’t listen to the rest of the series due to the narration.

Decent plot, interesting

Overall: good effort, but needed a bit of work to become spectacular. The plot: shifter SEAL being forced into undercover work by pretending to be a spy’s mate to save his life. It was introduced very believably, however, the story progressed in choppy batches where the overarching plot was mentioned (is this a bad guy camp or not?) then it would not be mentioned again for a long while. Then the relationship would be the focus to the exclusion of all else. The ending was a bit abrupt, leading you into a cliffhanger of sorts. Not a drastic one, but the story was not a HEA. The editing was atrocious; glaring spelling and sentence structure mistakes were evident throughout the story, enough that it annoyed me and took away from the reading experience. After chapter three I switched from the audiobook because the narrator, although smoothly articulated, was not what I expected. I prefer a narrator who uses an all encompassing approach, inflections, tone of voice, well placed pitch and pauses. This narrator just did not pull it off. At all. The book is better read than listened to (except for the editing). If you don’t mind overlooking editing issues or a lack of HEA finality, and are the type who can see the beauty of a story despite rough edges, then you might like this one. I, for one, am going to read book two because I have hope that the beauty will win out.

A Great Story and a Decent Narration

What did you love best about Sailing Deep?

I loved the blend of military and spy work. There was a lot of Dylan learning all about Blake, and Blake learning about how much Dylan had changed. The spy parts were kept vague enough to be believable and keep the story going. Dylan is definitely breaking the mold of the traditional Omega that is usually seen in Romance.

Have you listened to any of Robert G. Davis’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, I haven't.This performance was very nice, however. I found his narration a little stilted sometimes, but he sounded natural when he spoke for a character. I could always tell that there was a different character speaking easily.

If you could take any character from Sailing Deep out to dinner, who would it be and why?

The Alpha of the Shadow Pack (I can't remember how to spell his name). I could not get enough of him and that was a disappointment that I couldn't see interactions between him and other characters. I sincerely hope that Noah gives us more of him in future books!

Any additional comments?

There is a part of the book that is dubious consent (if not out right rape). Please keep this in mind when picking up this book. Skip the scene if it makes you uncomfortable.
I had first read this book and now listening to it, it brought back the difficulties I had reading this book. I don't like manipulation. I didn't see why Blake kept that fact that Dylan had known Blake years ago wasn't divulged. Then again, Blake does seem to like being the one with the secret. It does fit with his personality to play the 'game' to see if Dylan can figure out the rules.
Sometimes it smacked close to Stockholm Syndrome, but I honestly don't hold that against the story. It could have turned out so much worse, but Noah Harris wrote his characters and scenes masterfully. I was kept just on the edge of being uncomfortable and frustrated right there with Dylan, as well as cocky and self-assured as Blake.
A well narrated and written story! I highly recommend!

not a shifter story, not an action story, it's a M/M romance story

The amount of shifter material and action adventure in this story coulf fit into a thimble. o. Nice book to have if you like M/M romance because that is bulk of the book.

Decent story. Okay narration.

Have read this book several times. I really like Dylan and Blake. The plot is interesting, an d kept me guessing which direction the story would go. Decided to check out the audio book because it was free on KU. Narration is good enough for me to consider getting the second audio book.

Wolf Mates

This audio was very enjoyable. The story line flowed smoothly and the narration was good.
I liked the thought of a dragon being noble and not greedy. This story kept you guessing from the time of a dragon introduction until the end.
Thank you Noah for letting me listen to this audio.

Great audible!

This was a great book but it’s not a standalone. I am definitely interested enough to want to continue the series! Even tho I liked the narrator, his voice didn’t vary much so I wasn’t sure who was speaking until it was stated. Overall tho, I liked the audible!
