NAMED A MOST ANTICIPATED BOOK BY: Time, People, LitHub, and BookRiot

An unexpected road trip across America brings a family together, in this raucous and moving new novel from the bestselling author of Nothing to See Here.

Ever since her dad left them twenty years ago, it’s been just Madeline Hill and her mom on their farm in Coalfield, Tennessee. While it’s a bit lonely, she sometimes admits, and a less exciting life than what she imagined for herself, it’s mostly okay. Mostly.

Then one day Reuben Hill pulls up in a PT Cruiser and informs Madeline that he believes she’s his half sister. Reuben—left behind by their dad thirty years ago—has hired a detective to track down their father and a string of other half siblings. And he wants Mad to leave her home and join him for the craziest kind of road trip imaginable to find them all.

As Mad and Rube—and eventually the others—share stories of their father, who behaved so differently in each life he created, they begin to question what he was looking for with every new incarnation. Who are they to one another? What kind of man will they find? And how will these new relationships change Mad’s previously solitary life on the farm?

Infused with deadpan wit, zany hijinks, and enormous heart, Run for the Hills is a sibling story like no other—a novel about a family forged under the most unlikely circumstances and united by hope in an unknown future.

This story is so beautifully written, I loved it. Even though you felt you knew what would happen, each significant event was felt in my heart because of the author’s writing. This is my second book by this author, big fan!

This is a novel about family— losing, finding, and discovering family you never knew you had. Kevin Wilson’s new novel is brilliant and moving, written with his trademark sense of humor and understatement. His characters are so real, and the plot construct so original and compelling.
I’ve always thought audiobooks bring another dimension to novels, and this one is no exception. Marin Ireland’s narration is perfect: she infuses in each of the characters a unique and distinctive voice.
I really loved this book.

The Best Kevin Wilson novel!!!— and I was a huge fan before.

Mad was my favorite character but all the siblings were interesting. A unique take on the found family subject theme.

Found family

The first chapter, and a some of the second is a bit slow, but it sets up the story really well. The remainder of this book is a wild and fun ride with characters that you’ll love and care about.

An awesome book!

One hour and twenty minutes in, gave up in boredom. A thirty-something woman living on a farm in Tennessee unexpectedly meets a half brother mystery writer from Boston she didn’t know existed. After a lot of plodding conversation, she implausibly agrees after but a meal to leave her life in Tennessee and begin a cross country trek with this thoroughly uninteresting man she just met in search of the father who deserted them both, to add to the boredom, leaving in a PT Cruiser rental car.
Unlike animated, fascinating and unorthodox characters in Wilson’s riveting earlier books, these people are a snooze inhabiting a story line that portends many sleepy chapters.
I signed off, although a Kevin Wilson fan till now. Wish I could get my 1 credit back. So much interesting fiction available, cannot recommend this new Wilson book.

Disappointing
