Editorial reviews

Over a soundtrack of Cuban music and filled with homemade sound effects, Martha Hamilton and Mitch Weiss enthusiastically voice this tiny saga of the clumsy, indignant Rooster and his desire to go to a party thrown by a Heron. In the style of a children’s story, Rooster’s Night Out has the feel of a Zen parable, complete with a hero’s journey and conversations with grass, a stick, a cow, and a river. Rather than a moral lesson, however, Rooster’s Night Out is a fun tale of opportunism wrought pure.

Like the Old Woman Who Swallowed a Fly

This cute Cuban folk tale reminds me of the old woman who swallowed a fly . . . the rooster spills something onto his feathers and cannot find anyone to help him get cleaned up before his night out . . . but he continues to search . . .
