About this listen

New York City, 1922

Harp Devereaux is torn. Part of her desperately wants to return to Ireland to finish what she and her family and friends started, and to witness the departure of the British forces from Ireland after eight hundred long years. But the other part finds life in America during the Roaring Twenties too exciting to trade for the sleepy streets of County Cork.

She and JohnJoe are united and determined to sample all that life after the Great War has to offer, but life Stateside is not as free and easy as Harp first imagines and soon she finds herself longing for the simplicity of her homeland.

She wants to live life on her own terms but life is never simple, on either side of the Atlantic, and there are sinister forces at work, determined to bring them all down.

Many twists and turns

I have enjoyed each book in this series. Sometimes I have actually skipped the closing book in some series as it had bad reviews and I wanted to leave the series loving the characters. Have no fears, this book will wrap it up with the characters remaining true to themselves. There are shocks and disappointments but in the end you will understand why it had to be. The reader does such an excellent job you forget there is not a live cast reading this. The story is captivating at every turn and the characters are so real you wish you could go visit them. It will definitely be a series I will listen to again in the future.

Another Great Read

I am so sad that the Queenstown series is finished. Seeing Harp grow up and deal with life's challenges and her ability to survive each one has been a wonderful adventure. I will miss Rose, Matt, JohnJo, and rest of the family. Jean Grainger has done a fantastic job of drawing us into each of the characters lives. She also did a great job of making me really dislike one character immensely. Siobhan was amzing in her narrating. Thank You!!!

Disappointed-My least favorite of the four book series

I absolutely LOVED the first three books of this series. I binged them all, start to finish, and couldn’t wait to start this book.

However, compared to the other books in the series this one was disappointing to me. One thing that really annoyed me was the fact that there was too much repetition of what happened in the story prior to this book. Too much explanation that was boring to the loyal readers who have read the series in order. I am sorry, but if you jump into the last book in a series without reading the first three books there are bound to be some things you won’t understand. The endless explanations took quite a bit of enjoyment away from this book for me.

Also, in this book I felt that Harp acted out of character for herself in some important turns. Without giving away any spoilers I will just say that some of her actions toward the last third of the book seemed unlike herself.

Fabulous conclusion to this series. I absolutely love these characters and the story is well written. I’ve learned so much about Irish history reading these books. Excellent narration too. I love her voice.

Enjoyed this series

I really enjoyed this series. This final book was probably my least favorite. I thought it was a little repetitive; for example, a lot of repetition about Harp not wanting to get married. I agree with Harp and understood the first time it was explained. I will listen to more from this author. Overall, I thought this series was really good.

I really enjoyed the entire series! Worth the time! The characters were well written and I enjoyed all of them! Great historical fiction! I learned a lot about Queenstown/Cork and did my own research to learn more! I hope to go there one day!

Excessive backstory hurts 5-star rating

Forced to move to America, the family continues to fight for Ireland across the sea. Ralph moves into Harp's Irish house and shows his true colors becoming a true antagonist. Great story of ups and down during the Irish Revolution, the friends success in their band as well and women's and gay rights. The author does a beautiful job working through hard conversations with friends as well as the complicated mother-daughter relationship. The over abundant references to backstory brought this five-star rating down a notch making reading the prequels unnecessary and is quite annoying. The narrator, exquisite!
