Amazing

This story was captivating from start to finish. Characters leap from the page with such individuality. The sense of place and plot were expertly crafted and I highly recommend Jean Grainger’s novels.

What wonderful characters. Great to "meet" a female character who seems so real. Interesting mystery.-- loved it!

reliably good

The thing that I both like and dislike about Jean Grainger is that she's reliable. The good part is that you always know that you will get a wholesome, uncomplicated tale about an Irish family. The less good part is that it can be a little dull. But in a world filled with too much anger and drama, it's sometimes nice to go to a reliable author to get what you expect. There was actually an unexpected twist toward the end of this one, deviating from the reliable, but of course it all worked out (reliably) in the end. If you like Irish writers Jean Grainger is a good, current (did I mention reliable?!) writer.

Solid

The main character is very likable and also sometimes funny. It’s an easy short read. Reminded me a little bit of peaky blinders with all the information on “travelers”
Versus the “settled”. If I had once criticism it’s that while listening on audio some of the accents were simply very hard for me to understand and I struggled at times trying to figure out what was being said.

Happy to find this new author

What a great book - wondered about it in the beginning but fell in love with main character Mags as she goes through her life and job as a police officer in Ireland and especially how she worked to make things better for women in the work place and in our world - looking forward to more reads from this author.

Great entertainment

Humorous and empathetic, JG never disappointments. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to the next in the series.

Narrator is great. Not a fast read.

Great listen but it is slow paced on the daily life of the guarda. Nice to learn nore about Ireland.

A wonderful, wonderful tale

This is a wonderful story read perfectly. I have had the privilege and pleasure of knowing and being being friends with a number of travelers over the past 45 years, and so this exceptional tale is even better for me. I have listened to many hundreds of audio books, this is as good as any. I will certainly listen to it again and again. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

A cozy gem

Like sitting down with a good friend and a pot of tea (or a bottle of wine). I found myself unable to stop listening - not because of any suspense or mystery, but simply for the love of hearing the story - and for the immense pleasure of listening to Siobhan Waring’s phenomenal narration: M’s Waring is new to me, and her quiet perfection was nothing short of amazing. For me she is the best kind of actress, creating her character so clearly that there is no need to grandstand.

Loved this book!

Thank you for a smart but yet vulnerable heroine who is not a twenty-something. Women of a certain age can relate to her experiencing pre-menopausal symptoms and the trials and tribulations of a working mother and married life. Cannot wait for the next book.
