Publisher's summary

A young girl escapes after her sexually abusive stepfather kills his wife. She is saved by an almost mythical hero by the river, but later turns on him when her stepfather and his brother falsely accuse him of the murder. Sentenced to prison, the hero is nearly hanged on the way by his accusers. Badly scarred, the man starts over under a new name in a nearby town. When his fortunes dim, he returns to the town that condemned him.

With age, a scarred face, and revenge in his now twisted soul, he begins killing those who wrongly accused him. The girl, now a woman, has become a soiled dove to survive. Her real mother, a brothel owner, slowly goes berserk from guilt and hatred of her rival sister. The girl is kidnapped by her stepfather, who now desperately holds off the “hero”, and mocks him to be a hero once again. He refuses. As the girl is about to be killed, her vision of a true hero seems to finally come true, when one of her patrons comes riding through the flooding river and rescues her.

Nice western setting

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. River on the River had been an enjoyable listen, I liked following the different perspective of the characters and watching the story unfold over the years. Would be nice if some of the characters are more developed, as they are really interesting but many of their backstories feel like they are glossed over. I like the ending, the scene is very vivid. Narration by Brooks Corley is done greatly for this novel, especially the character's dialogues. Brings out their expressions really well.

Thrilling Chain of Events keeps you on your toes

Rider on river is a great book dealing with a a very interesting plot. The plot builds upon further and gets complex, and keeps you on your toes thinking what will happen next. The motivations of characters and their decisions felt natural based upon their circumstances. What I liked most however is, the character development. Every character in the story has some of their own flaws and no one is perfect. Overall, a very interesting story to listen to.

Rider on The storm

Here’s another somebody done someone wrong book and bloody revenge comes a Callin’.
The hero of this book suffers more than anybody else from false accusations to disfigurement and shame he goes through the ringer all because he decided to help somebody.

The narration is once again spot on, and the leather a voice of Mr. Corley drives his story forward like cattle on the plains

This is an excellent book to read and listen to in a short span of time and it will leave you wanting more.

Too few heroic characters, but far from dull.

"Rider on the River: A Thrilling Western Escapade" (2021) by L. Glen Enloe is an unique western novella about a town that is the home of an interconnected group of colorful—and mostly corrupt—characters. The tale begins when a man rescues a fifteen-year-old girl from her sexually-abusive stepfather and ends up in jail himself for murder. This sets off a chain of events that spans many years until it reaches an exciting conclusion. Too few heroic characters, but far from dull. Brooks Corley’s narration is effective. Recommended. At my request, I was given this free audiobook and have voluntarily left this review.
