Acerca de esta escucha

The average age of entry into prostitution in America is 13-years-old. Forced into a life they never chose, manipulated, abused, and tortured at the hands of the pimps who control them, our country's children are sold on the streets, on the internet, and at truck stops across America every night. They aren't bad kids who made bad choices. They are victims of child sex trafficking. They come from our neighborhoods, our schools, our churches, and sometimes our own homes.

Author Linda Smith brings to life characters based on real stories and interviews with teen survivors. Meet "Lacy" and "Star" as they reveal the underbelly of our country s commercial sex trade. Get to know the men who sell them, and the ones who buy them. Let Renting Lacy draw you into the lives of these young girls as they struggle to survive each night, watching their childhood hopes and dreams slip away in the darkness. Let it compel you to action.

Although this book is hard to hear, I recommend it to everyone (even teenage girls) because the more you know, the more you can do to make a difference. Ignorance is NOT bliss when it comes to sex trafficking.

Hard, But Essential

Powerful stories that need to be heard. Great audio book, and love the commentary from the author and others.

Excellent

This book gives people of any level of knowledge of sex trafficking an understanding of some of the mental, physical, and emotional abuse that young sex trafficked girls go through daily. I literally cried, because of all of the, "what ifs" that could and should have been the reality of the lives of those girls. It's hard, but sometimes you need to know the hard stuff in order to put forth the right actions to truly help the children.

This book truly gives insight to the lives of America's prostituted children

This is one of the best books out there on child sex trafficking from the viewpoint of the trafficked victim. This is based on a true story and Shared Hope is an amazing organization working to combat this despicable crime. Once you read this book you can never say that you were not aware of this horrible issue ever again.

Likes:
Gets into the details of the relationships to a degree that I think is really important to understand how the type of pimping covered in this book works, and in a way that a lot of other material about this subject fails to do
Does not censor or try to hide or gloss over sex, violence, and language — important for similar reasons to the above
Written in a compelling way that makes you care about the characters and follow the story easily

Dislikes:
The book is written in narrative form about fictional characters. The author says these characters and events are all based on real people and experiences but you basically have to take her word that she’s taking an appropriate amount of artistic license, as she’s not actually asserting claims that could be challenged or checked. As a person who cares about truth, I feel uneasy about this
Writes with a slight assumption that people reading already agree that prostitution is always bad and that more conservative sexual values are ideal; would have connected with the book slightly more if it had included less of this bias, or maybe included multiple viewpoints. But this is not a criticism of anything that’s central to the book, just a small observation from my own perspective.

Compelling narrative, wish it had more factual claims

This book is so clear about all the aspects of trafficking and lays it out so simply and well from so many different points of view. Fantastic read/listen and so informative. the commentaries in between we great too! highly recommend to read and share 👌

I read the book for a homework assignment and really find the topic extremely sad but true.

That’s it’s a true story

though this is a fictionalized account, it is taken from hundreds of interviews with real children living through the hell of underground sex trades that function everywhere--and probably closer than you think. A real eye opener and a call to action.

Distressing Reality...

This story truly opened my eyes to a new perspective on child sex trafficking. I had some knowledge that they are still a lot of sex trafficking in America in general but hearing the amount of missing kids who felt like this is there only way of living and receiving love truly breaks my heart powerful story that definitely needs to be shared more.

This Story Needs to be heard by all!!!
