Publisher's summary
The Halls of Venn are the seat of both knowledge and power in the great continent of Luna Ruinam. Renia, a scribe with a tragic past, spends her days expertly copying books that do little to satiate her desire for knowledge.
When a fateful commission lands on her desk, she finds herself tasked with transcribing a book coveted by assassins from the southern continent. Its theft throws the scribing halls into chaos and threatens to destroy the fragile peace that exists between their nations.
Haunted by dreams of her past, Renia must learn to master her impulses and awaken her long dormant magical abilities if she is to prevent war.
Fate, it would seem, is eager to grant her wishes. Yet she must risk everything to pursue it, and pay the bloody price it demands.

Story
Some dream of prosperity, of living a calm and peaceful life. But not me. Having reached the pinnacles of success, I can't stop thinking about the past, about a time when any misstep could spell disaster, when I had to pay, work, and risk everything for even the slightest gain and each day was like walking a knife's edge. That's all in the past now. This peaceful, predictable, and privileged life isn't so bad. But it's boring!

Brian Fieldings just buried his dad and lost the only job he's ever had. Waking up in an unfamiliar, pitch-black room the next morning feels a lot like the rotten cherry on a particularly awful sundae. Especially given the inhuman howling coming from the other side of the door. He's only been conscious for a minute or so, but Brian already has questions. Where is he and how did he get here? What is making those terrible noises? And why does the room he's in have an altar?

Story
The race to Mars had ended generations ago, pushing those seeking fame to venture beyond known borders. Major corporations battled to be first in securing resources and the future, vying for ownership of a new galaxy, akin to historical westward settlers. A single blinking red light signaled a seismic shift—a colossal deposit of zosmodious ore that eclipsed all others. The catch? It lay on an uncharted planet, Code Name Viridian. Could this audacious find reshape the course of humanity, transcending even human boundaries?

An interesting book in a world that's lacking just a tad bit.
First of all, the performance was incredible. The Voice Actor did a fantastic job at portraying every character, and giving this world a breath of life. Second, the book itself is honestly pretty good. It's a fantastic debut novel and I am looking forward to reading the next installment in this world. The characters were interesting, though some were definitely written worse than others. The overall world is intriguing, but it's also the reason I cannot give this book a 5 star rating. I felt like I was reading a theater play a lot of the times, due to just how cramped the world felt. It wasn't until the very end, that I felt like the world opened up and made me curious about it. Which is unfortunate, because that meant that most of the book was mostly carried by the character work. I'd give this book a 3.8 out of 5. It's not quite a 4 for me. But I also feel like a 3.5 is a bit too low. Overall it's worth the read(listen), and I'm looking forward to the next one.
