About this listen
When a towering alien monolith crashes onto James McGill's family farm, it triggers events that could spark a galaxy-wide war.
Things have gone bad among the colonies. Insurgents are building alien-hybrid armies and planet-killing weapons, threatening to upend the fragile balance of power in Province 921.
There's not only trouble in the province—the Core Worlds are igniting as well. The Mogwa have asserted claims upon the Imperial Throne, causing their rivals to move against them. Earth's Hegemony and the rebels are pulled into a conflict that could tear the galaxy apart.
Civil War looms, and McGill has only one chance to get ahead of it. Can he bluff, fight, and lie his way through a maze of shifting loyalties and dangerous enemies?
Find out in Rebel World, the latest entry in B. V. Larson's USA Today bestselling Undying Mercenaries series—modern military sci-fi at its finest.

Story
In the 20th century Earth sent probes, transmissions, and welcoming messages to the stars. Unfortunately, someone noticed. The Galactics arrived with their battle fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined their vast Empire. Swearing allegiance to our distant alien overlords wasn't the only requirement for survival. We also had to have something of value to trade, something that neighboring planets would pay their hard-earned credits to buy. As most of the local worlds were too civilized to have a proper army, the only valuable service Earth could provide came in the form of soldiers....

Story
The colony on Haven-7 has gone rogue. The colonists have split into two factions: the Techborn and the Dusters. The Techborn have always ruled the planet. They control the remnants of the crashed starship that brought humanity to this new world. The Dusters… they eat Techborn dust. Now, the Techborn strength is waning. Their weapons are getting old, and radiation leaks from the aging reactors have created mutations. Some of these, like their brutish troops known as Tuskers, have proven useful—but others are abominations.

Story
They hunt us. They bomb our worlds for target practice. A star cluster in the constellation of Orion rotates once every 1,000 years. Those who rule there have an ancient tradition: When each cycle ends, they train their fleets by spilling the blood of lesser beings. The enemy fleets are coming again. In response, the Rebel Worlds gather their starships to face the terrifying threat, and this time humanity is asked to stand with them. The last time they considered Earth, Vikings in longboats were raiding English coastlines. Today, we're less primitive. Today, we're a target.

More than two centuries after World War III poisoned the planet, the final bastion of humanity lives on massive airships circling the globe in search of a habitable area to call home. Aging and outdated, most of the ships plummeted back to Earth long ago. The only thing keeping the two surviving lifeboats in the sky are Hell Divers - men and women who risk their lives by skydiving to the surface to scavenge for parts the ships desperately need.

Story
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Overly used metaphors detract from the story.
At first I thought maybe Larson had a ghost writer. The story had a different feel for the first hours. Later I thought maybe it’s a different editor? Maybe no editor? Not sure but the over use of and repeated use of very similar metaphors detracted from the story. Overall a good addition to the series but I think the editing was poorly executed.

The McGill creature is always in the mix of things
This was very holistic from the galactic to earth central and the province that earth controls. I thoroughly enjoyed the ending, which was very justified bringing those two characters together. I won’t say for spoilers and it’s definitely not who you think it is. I simply can’t wait for the next round of adventures please please please write something soon. These books are addictive and awesome.

almost dropped the series at the start
The book started out with the typical ladies man stuff. but it was just to much. started to feel like softcore harem stuff.
but after the first few chapters it started to get rolling and with a good finish to the book, I am looking forward to seeing how it turns out in the next book.

Shenanigans of McGill
What's not like? 22 books into this series and the creative twists and plots, I still enjoy following McGill through his situations he always ends up somehow tangled in and the lucky escapes forthwith.

Great story and narration!! As always.
Mark Boyett is really an amazing narrator. B.V. Larson did not disappoint in this 22nd book in the series. I cannot wait to see what comes next as it sounds like it is about to get real spicy.

Really good and refreshing but…
AI was used to write this. Not sure if all, but some I think. Like when they repeat Seteekas clicking his jaws together because of annoyance. Still really good!

Another epic James McGill adventure.
It was another great story of McGills adventures and how he wiggles out of being permed. One thing it felt like to much time was put into McGill on his physical conquests with his lady friends. Otherwise really enjoyed it.
