Acerca de esta escucha

Millicent understands the terms of her arranged marriage all too well. She gets to be a Countess by marrying an impoverished Earl. And in return, the Earl Fitzhugh receives the benefit of her vast wealth, saving his family from bankruptcy. Because of her youth, they have agreed to wait eight years before consummating the marriage--and then, only to beget an heir. After which, they will lead separate lives. It is a most sensible arrangement. Except for one little thing. Somehow Millie has fallen head over heels in love with her husband. Her husband, who has become her very best friend, but nothing more...Her husband, who plans to reunite with his childhood sweetheart, the beautiful and newly widowed Isabella, as soon as he has honored the pact with his wife...

As the hour they truly become husband-and-wife draws near, both Millie and Fitzhugh must face the truth in their hearts. Has their pact bred only a great friendship--or has it, without either of them quite noticing, given rise to a great love?

This book is engaging with good character and plot development and a satisfying, albeit predicatable conclusion. While the predictability didn't bother - it is a romance novel after all - the degree of back and forth repetition and vacillating between the main characters near the end was a bit annoying. They've already been through the 'fidelity/infidelity' and 'love you/love someone else/love you' scenarios a number during the course of the story so reintroducing it again in the final chapters is somewhat offsetting and makes the book drag on a bit too long to no avail.

An enjoyable listen.

this man thoroughly disrespected this woman throughout the whole story and you expect us to believe that love grew out of this? how?

end did not justify the means

I loved the fragility of the hero and heroine in this tender story of a forced marriage that turns into friendship and eventually love. The main characters felt very human and their story was told with such tender loving care you couldn't help but root for them. Every character was well fleshed out and given respect and dignity. This was an excellent read and very credit worthy. Jenny Sterlin will whisk you away to another time and place with her soothing voice.

Heartbreakingly tender

...but there was no way Millie & Fitz could generate the same intensity generated by Venecia & Lex. Yet story gave surprisingly more depth then I expected. I'm not look8ng forward to Helena. Can the author cause me to even care? Great read hearing the distinct difference between Lexington and Fritz!

Good sequel

I hated him in the beginning but his character grows. I loved this book at times but was frustrated at others. I didn’t understand how she was so in love with him without him ever earning the love and I hated how she could never be honest with him even when the opportunities arose. Also, there was a bit of other books in this series that annoyed me. I was waiting to see what happened with this couple, didn’t need that much information about the others. All in all not a bad listen but can be confusing due to bouncing back and forth between the years.

Love hate feelings for the book

One reviewer complained about the story jumping back and forth between the past and present. At first I did find this a bit difficult to follow but in the end I really enjoyed it. The "time jumps" work great together to really bring the story to a good end.

I really liked this book and will definitely download the next one!

Still beautifully written and totally absorbing but so full of pain and misery... I really wanted to have a different ending to this story, like Milly fall deeply in love with someone else ( handsome duke, preferably) leaving Fitz and live happily ever after..the end.

Angstiest book award..

I don’t usually like slow burn romances. They tend to be filled with nonsensical arguments, angsty inner monologues and poorly conceived dissembling. Ravishing the Heiress, despite it’s ridiculous title, is a slow burn that doesn’t include any of the aforementioned tedium. Fitz and Milley have real problems, real heartaches and cultivate a real attachment to one another based on friendship and mutual admiration.

Fitz is a blazing hot mess at the start of their marriage, but Milley is a stalwart. Her quiet dignity and genuine affection for him makes her one the most like able female characters I’ve ever read in a historical romance. Towards the end, there are a few moments that rankle once they begin their marriage in earnest. She refuses to be honest, and he tries to rationalize martyrdom, but neither character ponders overlong.

The story, which goes back and forth forth along the timeline of their relationship, moves swiftly enough that no one part is dragged out. I didn’t care for the minor glances into the relationship between Helena and Hastings. Had I not realized that I had already read the next book in the shoes some months back, I think I would have been thoroughly confused, as I was the first time it happened. Since I knew the story of the two, I’m certain that it serves no purpose outside priming the readership.

While I’m not interested in book one, I may, however, seek out another Sherry Thomas novel. She has proven herself adapt at teasing out plot points and developing strong characters. Tempting the bride has a completely absurd hero and a shrew for a heroine, but the bulk of who they are is not revealed in masculine shoulders and feminine sighs. No matter how ridiculous a pair, both have courage of conviction to bolster their far less dynamic personalities. I was invested in their happiness. Well, I was invested in Hasting’s happiness and Helena’s transformation from haughty brat to sensible woman. Hint: it takes only one well-deserved hit on the head to make her see reason.

I loved it!
