About this listen

The barrier between worlds is broken. Only he knows the truth...

Magic has protected Tarsynium for a thousand years, shielding its people from a world ravaged by bloodthirsty demons. When a young ranger's apprentice named Owyn Lund discovers that the Arc of Radiance has been breached, he tries to warn anybody who will listen. But legends aren't supposed to be real.

When a village is mysteriously destroyed, rangers, mages, and rebels all point the finger, blaming each other for the demons' brutality. However, Zara Dennel, a mage's ward, has heard Owyn's tale - and she's inclined to believe him.

Together, they must prove that friendship is greater than intolerance, unity is more important than division, and that even the most powerful magic can sometimes not be enough.

Failure means the end of all things...a second - and lasting - Doom.

Experience the beginning of a thrilling epic fantasy series suitable for all ages. It's perfect for fans of Sabaa Tahir, Sarah J. Maas, and Brandon Sanderson.

Good Listen

Received this Audio Book for free. A good story, I enjoyed it as it developed, by the end it made me want to look for the next one in the series.

narrators are both good, it was an little disconnected when it switched chapters and the voices would be different. Kate Reading voicing the male character in the chapters she was reading sounded off. Same with Michael Kramer voicing the female character.

But overall it was a very good listen.

A good listen but lacks an "Epic" feel

Blake Arthur Peel's writing skills were fine and having both Michael Kramer and Kate Reading providing the narration performance portended a special listening experience. While I enjoyed the story and found elements in it that were similar to Brandon Sanderson's "The Way of Kings" it lacked much in terms of meaningful backstory for the MCs to ever give a feel of trepidation and greatness in them. Their immediate attraction to each other was fine but their growing allure in subsequent encounters seemed almost stereotypical, as did the roles of the secondary characters surrounding them. I attribute that to lack of meaningful character development as well.

Well done, not quite riveting, but well done.

I found this to be a rather entertaining storyline. I didn't quite find it riveting, but I did find it quite enjoyable and look forward to the next book in the series. It was reminiscent of listening to The Dragon Reborn series by Robert Jordan, as the narrator duo is the same. I find that I love they way they work together. Very well done.

not bad its ok

good story a bit predictable but my biggest grip is the voice acting they should do it by character not chapters in my opinion it ruins my image when a character have two voices

This bookseries is the small bro of Wheel of time.

this book is the wheel of time middle school ver. there is nothing wrong with that but there is nothing new and boy oh boy the amount of time is small in every book like for example the MC best friend has the ability to learn how to fight in one week one or two sparing lessons . If someone walks away for 2 to 3 weeks they most be dead till they show up the nexts day. if a spy gets away there most be nothing wrong till wait a day then have a army show up...... you get the idea everyone is a dumbass in this situations

that being said it’s ok if you dint read wheel of time

Reviewed 2nd book more completely, great narration

Story is weaker than it should be. Character development (growth) needs to be worked on...

A decent start to a series

Story is told from the alternating viewpoints of two main characters who are talented and kind young adults, one male one female. There is a third character who's view point we do not see but who is also intricate to the story and a bit more interesting.

Main threat/enemy is not human.

Plot is driven mainly by action and activity and not through character development, politics, or much else. Although, there is a bit of mystery to the backgrounds of the main characters.

Writing style is blunt and to the point and not flowery or metaphorical.

It does seem as though the story is just getting started and I am hoping the characters and plot become more complex.

The narrators are fun to listen to.

It’s ok

I think MK and KR save this book a bit. I’m not a fan of the personal experience telling style, I prefer to “follow” a person. It reminds me a bit of WOT with light, dark hounds and trollo.. sorry, gorgons. It’s not terribly nerve racking, more frustrating in some parts. But it’s entertaining and one can hope that this is just building up for the next book.

First Book of an Interesting Story!

Requested a free code in exchange for an honest review.

A Ranger Apprentice and a Mage Apprentice become involved in a great adventure. The characters are interesting and it is not a love story. Yet! This book has a satisfying conclusion and sets up the second book. I'm interested to see what happens in the next book. I listened to the book in one day.

The two narrators do a good job. They each narrate both characters. The book is written from the Ranger Apprentice and the Mage Apprentice points of view.

The return of evil

While patrolling the wilderness two rangers find signs of the return of demons from beyond the Radiant Shield that has protected them for years. So why does no one believe them and who can they turn to? This was a fun story with echos of the Robert Jordan and R.A. Salvatore. I'm looking forward to the second book! I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review
