About this listen

Audible narration by Janina Gavankar (True Blood)

In the near future, if Vegas games are ingeniously scam-proof, then the heists have to be too, in this imaginative and whip-smart story by the New York Times bestselling author of The Martian.

An IT whiz at the Babylon Casino is enlisted to upgrade security for the game of keno and its random-number generator. The new quantum computer system is foolproof. But someone on the inside is no fool. For once the odds may not favor the house - unless human ingenuity isn’t entirely a thing of the past.

Andy Weir’s Randomize is part of Forward, a collection of six stories of the near and far future from out-of-this-world authors. Each piece can be read or listened to in a single thought-provoking sitting.

Learning Quantum

Andy, You are brilliant! How ever did you learn enough details about quantum computing to write this little story? Quantum computing is so esoteric that the only way most people will ever grasp it is by reading really good SF stories like this.

short and great

Loved the story. Andy Weir is so smart. I'm also listening to Project Hail Mary which is incredibly well written and shows off Andy Weirs intelligence.

Packs a lot in a little

For a short story, this one packed a lot of intrigue into a little time. Andy Weir is good to cut to the chase in this story. Would make a great movie too!

Was good enough

The narration was poor, inorrect pauses and exclamations, not enough voice change for different characters.

Quantum computing and its impact

4.5 of 5 stars.

Andy Weir has the rare ability of explaining complex subjects (i.e. quantum computing) is a simplified manner through his characters without insulting the reader. "Randomize" follows a nice story arc which speculates about the impacts of quantum computing on the gambling industry and how intelligent, but "morally-flexible" people can be their own worst enemies. The story is a fun read though the conclusion may seem a bit unlikely.

The narrator gives a solid performance.

Good story.Overly theatrical performance.Want more

the performance was a little over the top for an audiobook, or at least more specifically for this story. I like the voice though. it's just a little too breathy and excited a lot of the times. regardless, I like the story and want to read more of it

I continually wondered what was going to happen next

I enjoyed this. I didn’t understand the quantum physics, but my lack of understanding did not change the story’s readability.
