About this listen

"All behavior makes sense"

"It most certainly does not!", is probably your first reaction.

Parenting and neuroscience expert Robyn Gobbel is here to reveal how all behavior, no matter how baffling, can be explained and remedied. You just need to look past the behavior and understand what's going on inside.

Robyn decodes the latest brain science into easy-to-understand principles and metaphors to help you become an expert in your child's behavior. She reveals simple ways to help you regulate and connect with your child, with brain-, body- and sensory-based strategies to overcome day-to-day challenges. She also provides you with the knowledge to understand and regulate your own brain so that you don't flip your lid when your child flips theirs.

Let this be your lifeline for parenting or caring for any child with baffling behaviors and hidden challenges, including kids who have experienced adversity, or with additional needs.

Very relatable.

I really enjoyed how the author followed the story of the parent and her child. Very well written and I got a few helpful nuggets.

A great book for awareness and effective action

I found this book to be one of the most relatable and effective parenting books I have read in quite some time. Within days of starting conversations with my kids about their “watchdog brains,” I found them coming to me acknowledging when their watchdog brains had taken over. I so appreciate the self-awareness that this book fosters, both in me and in my kids.

What an easy and informative listen

It is easy to listen to Robyn, it’s as if we are just having a kind conversation with each other. She’s so easy to listen to and the knowledge that was taught to help me see my kid’s big behaviors (and mine too!) were so helpful. Thank you thank you!

On the verge of changing the world!

Robyn's presentation of the vastness of relational neuroscience is understandable and usable. Her narration of her own book makes it even more powerful. She presents the facts and theories in a warm, kind, relatable, and usable way and it's easier to internalize the information. I'm so grateful for the way she has shared her knowledge, her gifts, and herself with us.

this book should be required listening for all parents!

I was recommended this book by my therapist. I have been struggling with some behavior of one of my teenagers. I wish I read this book 15 years ago!

Amazing, practical, and useful

Robyn has done her homework. This book is well-researched, but much more important she shares the insight and techniques refined in her years of practice. I recommend this for any parent struggling with an out-of-control child, or if you feel like you're often out of control yourself. I heard Robyn speak at a University seminar, and though I got so much out of the workshop, the book offered so much more detail. Highly recommended!

Hands down the most impactful parenting book I’ve read

Since the day I decided to become a foster parent, I have read, watched, and listened to so many parenting books, webinars, and podcasts - probably to the point of information overload. But once I began fostering and then adopted my kids, I often couldn’t access any of that knowledge in the moment, and even when I could, I was inconsistent with how I put it into practice. I found myself trying so hard to “get it right” but then hopelessly falling back into the same parenting strategies I had never wanted to use. Reading this book changed everything. After years of hearing so much about the effects of trauma on the brain, something about the way this book makes it easy to understand AND connect with made all the difference. Instead of “trying really hard” to parent in a way that will help my kids heal, I now actually have the tools to feel capable of it and a mindset that empowers me rather than shames me. I can truly already see a difference in me, my kids, and our relationship. This book transformed the way I see and experience my kids’ most extreme behaviors, and it’s also changed the way I see my spouse, loved ones, and myself. By the time I finished this audible book, I had also purchased the paperback copy and even the kindle edition (so I could easily jump to chapters I need in the moment, right from my phone). It has truly been that helpful! I’m so grateful someone told me about Robyn Gobbel’s podcast and book. I have already recommended both to many of my friends - including friends whose kids don’t have a history of trauma. I think this book would help ALL parents and caretakers. I volunteer for a nonprofit that cares for children awaiting foster care placement, and I’m so excited to also share this book with the people there who get the privilege of caring for kids with extremely vulnerable nervous systems. Thank you, Robyn, for doing this important work and for all you’ve done and continue to do to change the lives of so many children and families.
